Hi All,
Sorry for not posting in a while, not a fair weather fan, just been very ill. Things are back on track and will be visiting the site more often now!!
Now to the question! I am in Michigan and want to take me H3 to the infamouse Silver Lake Sand Dunes this sumer. Last year on the board the photo of the month was a yellow H3 at the crest of the 'big hill'. Any tips on tire pressure and such for a day trip in the dunes? I don't plan on beating the crap out of it, just crusin around and relaxin! Also, any ideas on insurance and warranty should something go wrong?
Thanks!

20 psi works great . keep momentum up in deep or loose sand . keep windows closed i learned the hardway . also good to close all vents . may tape my defrost vents on next trip to pismo . sand gets everywhere with windows down .

Dont claim to be the Sand Guru, but 80% of my offroading is on sand. Follow NEOCON's advice as for tire PSI it depends on the type of sand and type of tires you have.
20 PSI works well if you are following a beaten track, but if you are doing some dune climbing on very soft sand, I advise to go down to 10 psi, however there's a risk of the tire coming off the wheel.
so I switched from 32' inch goodyear to 33 inch BFG. this picture was back when I had the 32' goodyears, they were pretty awful.
take a tow rope with you and dont burden your H3 in weight too much. the lighter the better.
Good Luck

Im in Michigan also , id say no higher then 15 psi on sand dunes . If you drop as low as 10 pis dont do any high speed turns or you will see what the inside of your tire looks like when it comes off the bead

Mr. E
Maybe I'll see ya there at Silver Lake. I'm building a log cabin for myself in the Manistee National Forest so I'll be only 40 minutes away. Don't know anything about running in sand so it's good that you made this post.

Thanks to all that replied!
Yes, I've seen many the inside of a tire not cool! I used to be huge into dune buggies and the rest of my family still is. I will be crusin around the dunes with them and will have a many a tow strap and friends on hand. (Lets just say being stuck is a yearly tradition of mine regardless of vehicle!) (For some reason I always attempt something beyond )my skill
Your pointers are appreciated. Would love to see any of you guys or gals (gals preferred) up there!

I heard that the OEM wheels are designed to keep the wheel from coming off. Maybe not down to 10 PSI but 15. Can anyone confirm?
Also, what gears are best? Or does it depend on your speed?

I took mine to the sand and I didnt have to do anything to the tires, It was amazing and it certainly did better than any other chevy ive 4 wheeled in! Im use to the chevy and when you hit the sand you drop and struggle the H3 did just the opposite!!!

just curious... isnt sand really bad for the truck?
sand is like water... gets in everywhere and can be harmful to the vehicle. Is there a proper way of cleaning the rig after a run in the sand?

I just give my kids an easter basket full of beer or rum, take their car keys away, lock up my oldest's gun, including the one he has strapped to his ankle (along with all of my guns). This keeps 'em happy for a few days.
