GM VERIZON PHONE - UNLOCK CODE?
ATTENTION COMPUTER GEEKS!!!!
I know that this has been discussed here before, however I was hoping that somehow there was new information available.
The goal I am seeking is the ability to use the internal phone as a blue tooth connection with my own mobile phones that are not verizon.
Logic says that if there is an onboard phone that already works, it is just a matter of making it communicate with other devices.
GM says it cannot be done. However, if what we really have is an onboard phone, then all we really need is:
1) the unlock codes from Verizon,
2) connect to a bluetooth adapter,
3) link it up with whichever personal bluetooth phones you wish to.
If all the phone hardware is already within the vehicle, it is only logical that if we unlock it and make it able to link with other bluetooth devices,
Before I receive the wise-ass comments about beeing a cheap-skate for not just using Verizon, please keep in mind that the Verizon plan available in my area of Mexico costs about $4 per minute and the way I talk it would be really expensive to do that way. I use telcel for local stuff and cingular for international.
I liked the sound quality of the onboard phone and just want to be able to use it in the car, so I can be a safer driver!
There has to be a way...

Why not just get a bluetooth headset and use your existing phone?

cuz head sets are gay!!!
you constantly have to recharge them and mess with them while they are attached to your head.
it is an easier option to accomplish it that way, but i would like to be able to use the system that the vehicle already has.
plus, you can have more of a PARTY LINE on your calls.
all the other car companies have blue tooth ready devices in theirs.

Re: GM VERIZON PHONE - UNLOCK CODE?
Don't believe it can be done with the existing setup, and it might require a heck of a lot more than unlock codes. So let me be the wise ass and say you cannot do it for Cingular...with just the so-called unlock codes. Cingular does NOT use CDMA, Verizon does. Therefore, the internal circuitry of the VCIM is based on the Qualcomm CDMA technology, and is a Qualcomm board. (Cingular uses either GSM or TDMA, depending on the local system.)
As for your other company, I have no idea what system they use, but I will guess it is also GSM, since CDMA is primarily used in the USA/Canada.
GM owns Onstar, and they use the Verizon circuits with an agreement with Verizon. Verizon markets the use of the Onstar phone as part of their family network, and it adds business. Verizon also supplies about 90 percent of all GM issued cell phones. So, even if you had a CDMA provider in Mexico, why would GM give you this mysterious unlock code?
They do make handfree Bluetooth systems for automobiles.

Re: GM VERIZON PHONE - UNLOCK CODE?
Thank you, F5Fstop. I guess I am just hard headed. I want what I want when I want it, and the way that I want it!!! You are correct that Cingular and Telcel both operate on 3G GSM and I guess they are not compatible with our onboard phone systems. As always, thank you for passing along the facts.
