Has anyone replace the upper ball joint/s on their H2. I have grease oozing out of the upper ball joint driverside cover/boot. There is no visual bolts or rivets on the upper control arm.
thanks,
troy

GM started using a no replacable ball joint in 2000. You have to replace the entire control arm. About $180 each. Now thats a better Idea. No thats ford isn't it. Oh well good luck!

did you burst the boot or is it leaking from the edge?
if so then try and reseat the boot, and if the skin of the boot is tight then it will mostlikly reseat itself.

secondly, try up grading to a water proof grease or High presure grease(about $9-10 per tube) it won't push out because its very thick. and takes the beating if your offroad alot.

After my last dealership hummer service a new hole appeared with grease oozing out. The mechanic was nice enough to leave his sharp punch in my H2 after the service. I am never taking the Hummer back to that dealership's service dept.(many problems, the GM rep. was no help! What an idiot he turned out to be.)

About the A-arm, the dealership ordered a ball joint for $78.00 due this Monday. They did not mention replacement of the entire upper A-arm.

Thanks again,
troy

drmiles is correct that the entire A-arm has to be replaced. $108.00 (I think they gave me a break on the price) The replacement was simple, only took me 20-30 minutes. Had an alignment done afterwards.
thanks for the replies.
