Husky mud flap installation?

For those with front mud flaps...

I'm not crazy about drilling into the painted fender.
Are all front Husky flaps installed this way?
Has anyone done it differently?
When I want to drive with them off, there will be 2 ugly open holes in the painted fender surface, whereas the hole in the black part of the fender well can be easily capped.

I just installed the OEM mud flaps about three weeks ago. The procedure for putting those flaps on are the same. If you want the flap to stay on I would go ahead and drill the holes and put in the screws. If you do anything different they might fall off if you get some mud on them.

Got Huskys on mine. Used the stock kit and left mine on. No problems. You could get smaller self tapping screws and drill 1/16 rather than 1/8" holes. Or when you take off either putty or seal with silicone till ready to reapply. They are durable flaps and will flex sumwhat. I have thwacked mine pretty hard in the woods and they stayed well! good luck.

If the holes bother you with the flaps off, just get some black trim screws for the holes.

Eureka! I do have some Army green duct tape that will match the body color.

I have the Huskies as well. No problems as far as I can tell but I haven't been through a winter yet (I am nervous about that as well and if doing yourself, you will need an angle drill adapter if you aren;t pulling the wheels). The tape is a good idea but after damp for awhile, it may depart. I'd go for the trim screws idea.

I have the Husky flaps and used silicone between the body, flap, and on the screw. Hopefully I've not introduced a path for moisture. But the new steel that is used now is fairly rot resistant. Midwest cancer seems to be on the downcline....

I didn't pull the wheels off, just turn them all the way to give me enough clearance.

I also dabbed some grease on the holes and screws prior to tightening. Perhaps I should check it out and put some silicone or trim screws.

I put the huskys on my H2 and used some of the plastic push pins and redrilled the holes to line up with the factory mounting points. I never used the screws provided and they are still on 2 years later and even stayed durring the Mud bog with 20 pounds of crap hanging from them.
I have never looked at the inner mounting points on a H3 but if it can be done go for it.

How'd you do the rear flaps without removing the wheels? My buddy installed them for me (he owns a body shop) and he had to use a right angle drill attachment. I now have a similar attachment in my tool arsenal.

For rear wheel since, all fasteners are in plastic, I took drill bit, heated with a butane torch and pushed thru plastic. Voila, hole ready for fastener.

Have them installed on my rig (husky mudflaps) with rock rails and nerf bars.
