I'm having a problem with my steering wheel getting off-center. After both of my recent Moab trips I've noticed on the drive home that my steering wheel is off center - at the 10 o'clock position. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it for free the first time. I just took it in again this week and they said it's not covered by the warranty since "alignment is normal wear/tear item".

Anyway, I've maintained that the car drives perfectly straight and that it must be something in the steering column. If it truly were out of alignment as bad as the steering wheel indicates I'd be driving in cirles. The dealer said:

"It is impossible for the steering wheel to be off-center when the car is in alignment".

Can someone verify if that above statement is actually true? I believe they are just trying to screw me for the $150.00 alignment job. I've escalated with Hummer customer service, but they just call the dealer who says to them "It out of alignment". Then cust service tells me that not a warranty item.

Tim - didn't you say you had this happen before too?

Yes, your steering wheel can be off center and still have a perfect alignment. BUT chances are that your alignment is off slightly. Go to your tire store and have them check it for you. $150 is pretty steep for an alignment.

150.00 is way high for an alignment. Then again if you're an H1 owner, the stealership will charge you 400.00.My local tire guy charges me 60.00 for a four wheel alignment, I'd hunt for someone thats in that range. Also, when you call around to shops about getting an alignment make SURE they have a Hunter alignment rack. That is the company that HUMMER dealers use, so it will have all of the alignment specs in it to properly align you're truck.

Hey there. Yes, I did have this happen... acouple of times on the 03. It may be the tires and your alignment... Just like Alec said. After I got rid of the stock tires, I never had the problem again. ???
