Default Replacing H3 Alternator

The alternator on my 2006 H3 Adv. has been making noises (probably stuffed with mud) for a few years now and I think its time to replace it.

I just dropped the truck off for an exhaust manifold leak and they were going to quote me on the alt also. The dealership before quoted me over $400 to drop in a new OEM one..but I see I can get the alternator on gmpartsdirect.com for $135.63..I could probably even justify a heavier duty alt since I charge a red top, run a Viair air compressor, electric winch and lots of lights.

But before I decide to do that, has anybody removed the H3 alternator before? I have long envied Fords only for the reason that the alternator is sitting right on top. It looks like ours are near the top..but I havent made eye contact with all the bolts or wire attachments which makes me a little nervous.

Any tips, thoughts or a quick write up would be excellent if it exists!!

Thanks!!
