I have the 6-disc Monsoon headunit with factory XM. I was wondering if I replaced the headunit, could I re-use the XM receiver with the aftermarket HU? Is it possible to just get the Terk adapter for the new HU rather than having to purchase a totally new receiver?

I guess it would depend on the aftermarket headunit. The XM module outputs left/right signals and a common signal to the factory headunit. If the aftermarket headunit can use these right/left audio outputs and the common output, then it should work.

Nicht!! The oem xm tuner is controlled via serial databus. To the best of my knowledge, no one has ever made an interface to control any of the oem databus accessories from an aftermarket controller (i.e. cd changer, dvd, steering wheel controls, or any other slave). If you get a new head, just get the xm tuner for that brand. You can, however, reuse the oem xm antenna.

Good point, forgot about the headunit suddenly disappearing from the databus. I would guess the BCM will not turn on the XM module unless it sees a radio On input.
