Default H3 Accessory wire by the radio

Hello,

I am installing a sirius sportster4 and I have hardwired a cigarette power adapter from radioshack using the orange and black wires on the back of the radio harness. This obviously is always on due to the orange being a constant hot, but i would like the sirius unit to turn off with the key.

Does anyone know what wire is the accessory wire controlled by the key, which I can connect to instead of using the Organge one?

Thanks,
Josh

Car is 2006 H3 with the most basic stock radio, no xm or 6 disc, or nav, or even mp3 player.

Brown wire into the gray 12-pin connector at terminal K, is ignition 3 voltage and controlled by the BCM via the HVAC relay. There is no ignition On voltage to the radio.

Great thanks for the help!!!

Can someone provide the location of Terminal K? Is this one of the 2 connectors that go into a metal box after I pull the radio/climate control cover off?

Thanks and Best Regards,
Josh

If you use ignition wire it wont be powerered on accy.(key back)
There is a yellow wire on the rear wiper switch that runs key fwd((ign) and key back(accy) I would run it to power a relay than use the positive wire from the accy plug or the red wire on the trailering wires under the steering wheel on the right to power your accy. There is also a ground located there.

the metal box is the onstar box, i have no idea where terminal k is, but there is a grey connectors on the "radio/climate controm/console" cover, that might be the one.

I forgot to say, at the HVAC control head.....When you pull off the trim cover around the radio and HVAC, it will be behind the cover, since the HVAC controls come off with the cover.

fourfourto: You are correct, the yellow wire will be hot in accy and run. However, in regard to a ground, since this is a new electronic receiver type device, the person should make a new ground just to be sure it is clean enough for the new module that was not designed in by the manufacturer.

There's a yellow wire under the driver's side A-pillar cover that's 12v switched.. It, like the radio will stay on when the key is turned off, until a door is opened.. I don't have a clue what that yellow wire controls though.. Either the sunroof or power for the mirror I'd guess..

Thanks for all the help. I ended up going off the yellow to the rear wiper switch. Will post if any problems arise, so far so good.

By chance does anyone know what the grey wire is from the radio harness? I seemed to get 12 off that with my meter with KeyON EngineOFF.

The yellow wire is for a sunroof. However, there is a possibility it will be there with, or without a sunroof. Some harnesses have all options in them, even if the harness is not ordered.

the a-pillar cover is the plastic cover over the pilar thats in front of the driver to the left or to the right. The one where the wire in question is is in the driver side pillar. There is a little oval thing that says air bad on it if you have an air bag, and it probably doesnt say anything if you dont. That thing is a cover for the screw that hold the cover in place. If you remove it you will see the screw under it. carefull taking it off as not to scratch the palstic around it or itself. if you take the screw off pull the outward, adn then if i remember correctly up.

I tapped into a cluster of wires comming off of the ignition switch itself for "key-on" power. My radar detector now stays on with the other accessories until a door is opened. I can't remember which color wire it is, but it is in the top row of the locking connector to the left of the steering column under the dash. Pull the trim panel off by the drivers door first, then remove the plastic below the steering wheel to get to it.
