Default How many miles is too many?

Have been looking online at many H2's, and wondering if anyone has bought a high mileage H2 here? Found one that was: one owner, clean carfax, no accidents, etc but had many highway miles. Just looking for some input; what major has to be replaced at a certain mileage. Thanks for any help!

I don't worry so much about miles as general condition of the vehicle. If it has been taken care of then there should only be normal general wear items. I have known many guys who took really good care of their trucks and were still driving just fine with over 200,000. I know of one guy who owned an engine/machine shop ad had an S-10 pickup for his gopher truck. That thing was beat to hell so bad the bed was nearly flapping in the wind. It was used for throwing engine blocks in and hauling scrap junk blocks away. Last time I saw it it had 370,000 miles on the original motor and tranny and was still going. It didn't even smoke!

Obviously this precludes those bad problems that do happens sometimes. That is just the nature of mechanical machines!

I've got an 04 w/ 95,000 miles. I've taken really good care of her since I drove it off the lot. "knock on wood" still running strong! But, if you are about to buy an 04 w/100 miles I wouldn't you just don't know how it was driven.

To me, the PPI you have done, the carfax, the maintenance history, the useage (onroad or offroad) and records of a used car trump mileage. The H2 is a rugged machine and that 6.0L V8 is well designed. Have they cared for the leather interior, is the skid plate bent, is there lots of rust underneath, does the transmission fluid smell burnt - there's so much you can tell about the care of an H2 in the first 15 minutes.
I've seen 6.0s go 300,000 miles without overhaul. However, replacing transmissions, differentials, transfer cases, and electrical problems can be expensive, but with the depreciation eaten on a used H2, you can afford to put some money into them. My H2 has been trouble free (except for two windshields from rocks) - knock on wood!

I would have to agree with the above post I have seen vehicles with 30k miles have more problems than one with over 100k that is because vehicles with alot of miles means the owner in their minds know they need to take care of it to last long, where as the low mile vehicles are because it was more than likely a lease turn in and they give two ****s cause its under warranty adn could care less if there is oil in there or the maintence is good. just my 2 cents.

You could easily run a compression test on the cylinders and get a sense for their wear....

I would look it over very well. An 04 in the rust belt could be hiding a lot of headaches that will come out in a year or two.

I had an 01 with 109000, Dodge Ram. It was from Delaware and had to have been driven in every snowfall. The doors started to rust from the inside, the breaklines, and powersteering lines are steel... rusted through and ruptured.

I fixed everything and sold the truck.

My H2 is from Texas, not a lot of rian, not snow and salt... looks BRAND new under it.
