I've been thinking about getting an H3, but in doing research online, I'm amazed by the amount of hatred that so many seem to have for the HUMMER brand.

I imagine that most owners learn to ignore them, but what do you think causes such knee-jerk reactions? Is it envy? Jealousy? Or maybe HUMMER is just an easy target for people to vent their frustrations.

Jealousy, misinformation and easy target are all appropriate answers.

I think that the brand and models are so different that it makes them for an easy target.

If you look at the facts: most people complain that they are gas guzzlers; although in reality they are no worse and even better on gas milage than some other brands like Jeep for one.

But they dont want to listen to this and continue to hate, so for me I dont care. If you are so close minded to think this way with out knowing the facts I dont care to know you anyway. In fact driving a Hummer keeps the idiots away from your social life in some sense.

Well I won't have one until the fall when the 2007’s are out but I would enjoy a confrontation from one of these ignorant do-gooder, tree huggers who like to bash the H3 just because it’s a Hummer.

I'm all for protecting the environment but when these morons target the Hummer and specifically the H3 over all of the other giant SUVs and gas guzzling trucks, they are ill-informed and uneducated and it will be time to lay the smack down on them. This I will enjoy.

On the other hand, if my soon to be H3 is ever the victim of vandalism, I will go nuts.

People either love em or hate em. No middle ground. Why let other peoples opinions sway yours?

I'm not caring because I'm not seeing the hate. Here in Silicon Valley the H3 is well liked by all.

ufcjeff, I'm thinking the same thing about vandalism.

But actually, I have to admit that I enjoy the idea of pissing off the automotive-holier-than-thou types. I just didn't realize that I had it in me until I started reading some of their rants, which have me wanting a HUMMER even more than before.

This is from one of about a gazillion sites that bash the HUMMER brand:

The Hummer's basic statement is: "**** you". Hummer's own market research shows that the typical Hummer buyer is vain, insecure, self-centred and has little concern for the consequences of his or her actions on others.

The overall yuppie four-wheel drive attitude to safety is also "**** you". The basic idea is: "I'm bigger than you, so if we have a scrap, you're going to come out second best."

After I read this, I thought, "Well, hell yeah! This is the truck for me!"

Maybe I've got a personality disorder. Oh well. Let 'em eat cake.

My opinion, who gives a flying F**k what someone says about the vehicle you drive. Most people are too ignorant to know the fuel mileage of any vehicle. I had neighbors in TN who thought I should drive my Jeep TJ more than my Vette since according to them, the Jeep had to get better mileage. (Jeep 16, Vette 28 highway.)
They never believe me when I told them the Vette was my economy car, and I didn't care then, and I don't care now. My basic answer is, "f**k off," and the older I get, the easier those words flow from my mouth.

I may drive a Hummer, and a Vette (when it is running), but I live in a house that is totally energy star rated. Not just all of the appliances and furnace, but every light bulb in this frigging place is fluorescent (they take a while to turn white), and the place is to dang tight I have to open the doors in the winter to get some airflow.
I bet most of the people driving those little fuel misers have a thousand lights on at one time, all incandescents, and leave their porch lights on all night because they are afraid of the Bogey man. (Me, I sleep with a SIG under my bed , but it is in the dark.)
RANT over....

I've been given lots of hate, but don't really care. I've never had a death threat, so they're up until now harmless. Hopefully I'll never be shot by some gangsters or an angry tree hugger.

Most hippies are oblivious to facts and common sense. They simply go with whatever they hear at the local "Pot for Peace" rally. When idiots gather, bad things happen. Though I now have grown quite leary of the current establishment!

Personally, I think driving something like the H1, H2, and to an extent the H3 isn't the cafefree, F-YOU drive most hippies think it is. I mean, if I hit one of their econoboxes, I might just climb up over the hood and roll. And when that jerk pulls out in front of me in his oil-burning '70's Ford Fiesta or Toyota Echo, I have to hit the brakes, because I know that he won't survive the impact. I would hate to bloody the bumper. With great power comes great responsibility.

But then again, Mooses fear my 7-slot grille, road debris and rocks easily clear the underbody, most impactors will probably just leave scratches, and very few roads are left impassible.

However, pedestrians have yet to figure out that a oncoming Hummer is not something to step out in front of. I guess Darwinism will solve that one.

Thanks. I'll take it.

And a note about my current location - it'll be changing to Desert Hot Springs in a few months - a MUCH better place for a HUMMER to live a happy life.

you never appreciate how thick people can be until you enlist. much of it is herd mentality i think, but alot of it isn't so much ignorance, its just that some people absolutely have to have something to discriminate against to either bolster or to justify their place in their social establishemnt perhaps its also to have another thing to be right about, feeding their ego's ergo they do no research (so in a way ignorance I guess)... after the initial frustration wears off... they end up getting my sympathy... how much would that bring the suck to live in fear of the environment collapsing, the bugs in meat, getting melanoma from too much sun, deet in insect repellant... I know someone whom locks the doors at all times... even when they go to take out the trash. its just gotta suck to live like that.

Just have all the haters you run into that complain about how Hummers are killing the environment read this article

I love this section the best
For example, while the industry average of all vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2005 was $2.28 cents per mile, the Hummer H3 (among most SUVs) was only $1.949 cents per mile. That figure is also lower than all currently offered hybrids and Honda Civic at $2.42 per mile.
