Has anyone added a roof basket yet? Any recommendations? I didn't get the crossbows cause I wasn't sure what rack I was going to get, so I'm wondering what others are doing or planning.

Thanks

Haven't added one yet but I am going to! I was looking at this basket I found on ebay the guy said he can custom make one to your size you just take the measurements. He also told me that he can fabricate the mounting bracket because I don't have the roof bars either. I haven't ask him if he could make it out of round tubing because his are square in the pics. But they are supper strong. Check it out

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIte...ame=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

He quoted me a price of $535.00 + sh. My measurements were for a basket 90" x 48" and that covered the roof. He also said he would install light mount on the basket.

I put a cheap one on my H3. I think it looks great and easily attaches high lift jack and shovel etc.

There is a real nice one at H2parts.com under the H3 category. It is real nice and real expensive about $900 I believe the picture it is on looks like a H2 though.

More pictures at the link below.

H3 Hummer-
Which Thule rack is that? I was looking at those the other day and was thinking about one. I'm trying to find one I can mount without having to buy the crossbows.

Thule MOAB. It fits great and also has the option to purchase an extension making it longer.

I don't know of any racks unless specifically made by GM that would fit without the cross bars. To bad they don't come standard any longer.

I paid $239 for mine on sale.

I don't have the cross bows either and planning to get the roof basket as well. anyway I found this one and it says the mount "fits into factory rain gutters on the roof of your vehicle, then bolt to your roof basket for a strong connection." No need for the bow....

Fliggah-
What rack is that?

My brother put a Surco on his Expedition and took his crossbows off to mount it and it looks like it might work out for the H3, so I may give them a try.

It is the Surco Safari Roof Rack and it uses Hummer specific rain gutter mounts to hold the rack in place. if u do get it let me know how it works 'coz I'd rather get this that the bows.

Thanks

I had a roofbasket/rack installed by WILDERNESSRACKS. The owner used my H3 as a prototype for the rack. He used direct connect brackets so it installed right into the factory rails. No crossbows needed. You can check out there website at www.widernessracks.com

What is the weight limit? Can you take another picture looking down...and sideways...possibly by standing in the rear cargo area? Do you like the quality of the construction?

Yeah, the construction seems very tuff. I stood on it and it doesn't give or move at all. The center supports are replacable if you do manage to bend them.

As far as a weight limit, they said if you can get it up there it will hold it.
