Default 08 H2 AirCon Problems

Hi guys,

Bona fides first, 130k on an 03 H2. Traded it in on an 08 about 8 mos ago. 14K on the new one only 8mos old. I'm in CT, so one can expect warm, humid summers. Original compressor failed and was replaced 2 weeks ago. After replacement, all went well for 3-4 days til we hit 85-90 dgf temps w/70%rh.

At that point the a/c could not keep up. Using 2 different temp measuring devices, IR and contact, I tested the air output of my H2 against my wifes 05 3/4 ton Suburban side by side. My a/c was pushing air out at 18mph at 70dg! My wifes truck with 43k miles was pushing air with SAME settings at 25mph 42dgs!

Local dealer, my opinion the best in CT, is now telling me my system is w/in spec. Yet, they are replacing the compressor again! Techie doing the service called me and said (sorry for the direct quote) "the 08 a/c's "suck"". Spoke later to the service manager who said "???, we haven't seen many problems)".
He did not know the tech had called.

I can only see this escalaling into a "P...ing contest". All I know is that paying as much as I did for this truck, I expect it to have a/c. Right now, for work I cannot take a client in the truck with me. W/an outside temp of 90, it is down right warm in the truck. I also regularly haul 5000lbs trailer, can't wait to do that when its warm!

Anyone got any thoughts or comments? 'cause I'm going to have to push this to a new level if the 2nd replacement compressor doesn't solve the issue.

Have a Hummer of a day!

Ted

We have had some 100 degree days and mine hasn't missed a beat. Hope you get it fixed, maybe with such dealer inventory a buy back is in order.Check the lemon law. I have had a Ford Super Duty 6.0 bought back and an Audi A6. The Audi, every time you turned on the radio the back window went down. Afer a week at the dealer, they said go pick out another.......

The a/c in the 08 works a heck of alot better than the 06 we had. If you crank up the a/c in the back...you can hang meat in the truck it gets that cold.

We've had the truck down in SC with mid 90 ambient temps and high humidity and it never missed a beat.

When you have a compressor failure all kinds of crap can circulate into the system. A new compressor won't work properly if the rest of the system has blockage or restriction.

On older vehicles the orifice tube would be blocked, I haven't worked on an H2 A/C to know if the system is similar, but suffice to say if the system wasn't properly cleaned when the new compressor was installed, it will never work properly.

I would talk to the Service Manager and see exactly what work was done, chances are a lazy tech bolted on a new compressor, pulled a vacuum and charged it, and the rest of the system is contaminated with the remains of the old compressor.

Don't accept a poorly performing system and don't allow that flunky to do the work again, 08's have no A/C performance problems, if they did you'd hear about on this forum like a rash.
