I Just had KodiakZ install an Eclipse NAV into my H3 and noticed in the online version of the manual that you can change the opening screen jpg.
Has anyone tried this and actually had success?
I've went through about 8 cd-r's already and am going down in flames every damn time..

BTW: Kodiakz does some excellent work! Highly recommended!!

I have the Pioneer Avic-d1 (Yes I know completely different nav unit but...) I was able to make a dvd rom that had the opening screen and i changed it but used the same file name. On the pioneer the file is BGOPEN2.JPG

The pioneer unit loads its graphic off the dvd and stores it in memory so after, i loaded it the first time i went back to the factory nav dvd. If this is the same way the eclips works just drop the dvd in your computer and explore the files and see what the opening screen is called.

None of this probably helps but you never know.. and it gives me a chance to show off my custom nav screen

Tim, I will call Eclipse tech on Mon and see if they have any suggestions. What exaxtly happens when you try and what format (jpg, tiff, bitmap) are you using?

@442- I just checked the online version of your manual and it looks like they didnt include the feature in the 30d.
30D Manual

On the 50D and 5500 it says you can do it if you use the following settings:
Disc format: ISO9660 Mode 1
File Size: less than 100kb
File name: ISO9660 Level 2 (up to 31 bytes)
File ext (type): .jpg (non jpg-2000)
Write method: Single Session
Image size: 416x240 or smaller
and you need to add a blank file called CSM.txt also.

Its all on page 33 of the 50d and 5500 manuals- online only though) 50D manual

@ Kodiakz- I should have all the right formats going, i've used three diff disc mfg's and it does absolutely nothing. Almost like it was a mistake in the manual.

Not a big deal either way, I just wanted to have the NAV boot up with the H3 logo
Thanks in advance for any efforts!

@Timgco- man thanks for the invite. I would be all over that but I run a Scenario Paintball team and we have to practice this Sunday... Sounds like a kick though- thanks again!

Make sure that you have a little filler text in that file. When you go through the setup, does it follow along like the steps in the guide and then not work, or does it fail before that?

So Kodiakz calls me tonight and goes over the formats and everything, then he asks me if I had tried to put the cd with pics into the DVD slot instead of the CD slot.

uhhhh, no. I haven't.

I run out and try it and Shazam! New opening screen on the Eclipse!

Very cool- thanks much Kodiakz! Too bad Eclipse didnt put out a Eclipse NAV for Dummies manual. I would have been ok at that point!

Thanks again bro, I appreciate you looking into it and thinking "outside the box".

Any .jpg that is not larger than the maximum size constraints (I can't remember exactly what they were, but can look them up if you need).

Not unless you are daddyo hacker and can dump the firmware and rewrite your own version!!

Hi all..

I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster. I've been reading a lot of threads and ran across this one.

I've followed (what I think) are the directions given here and also in the manual supplied in the link above. I've created a JPG image @ 32k simply called 1.jpg along with a CSM.txt file with a few words written in as filler. I popped the CD into the DVD slot and nothing happened.

Can someone tell me what I did wrong here?

EDIT - BTW... I have the 30D version.

Thanks,

Rick
