i was pretty much convinced on the line x grill look but yesterday in home depot (a completely unrelated trip) i was wondering around the paint section and saw some of the colors and textures on some of the rattle cans (i know sounds bad but stay with me) i actually found one i thought would look good on the grill so....about $25 a few hours and a 6 pack of sierra nevada pale ale later here are the results. i also tinted the drl's a little bit with a clear black spray tint i picked up at a hobby shop. im overall pretty happy with it. it turned out a little lighter than i had hoped but its definately better than the chrome imo.

Confused...it looks like you blacked the parking/turn signals, not the DRLs.

Great look!

How durable do you think the paint will be?

Cool look, very different.

I also wonder how hard it will be to wash bugs and stuff off that textured paint.

looks good!

have you thought of going over with regular black paint to match the color a little better or is the sun playing tricks on the picture?

That might match up to the boulder gray nicely.

Match the color of the truck? Looks Slate Blue to me isn't it.

I actually like it. It will be interesting to see how well it turns out. I plan on doing the Line-x to mine soon and now I might look at going with a lighter color.

BTW - excellent choice in beverage .

Those are the DRL's on the H3. The others are fog/driving lights.

first off thanks for the positive. i just jumped in and did it. yes the sun does make it look lighter in the pics but it still is a little lighter than i wanted. still kicking around a few ideas. maybe some black and then some clear for added durabiltiy??? i too am curious as to how it will hold up but if it doesnt...well ill just go a different direction. its fun regardless.
