Default The latest on Hummer

More good information from Brian:

Save HUMMER Summit Still Planned in Chicago Sunday
General Motors announced to its HUMMER dealers on April 6th that their search for a company to take over the brand was unsuccessful and a wind-down of HUMMER operations would soon begin. That news isn?t slowing down an attempt to save the HUMMER brand in Chicago on Sunday for the ?Save HUMMER Motors in America Summit.?

The group behind the Summit is the newly formed Capital & Labor International Coalition (CLIC), and confirmed stakeholders include U.A.W. presidents from the Shreveport and Northern Indiana areas where all HUMMERs are built.

We?re not sure what effect the summit will have on the shut-down of HUMMER since GM has effectively said it will no longer hear any offers for the brand, but we also know there?s some controversy over at least one bidder (possibly more) not being given a fair chance. Since GM?s majority stakeholder is the federal government, we urged readers to contact their representatives to ensure every deal was looked at carefully before shuttering the brand completely.

The CEO of CLIC, Steve Denari, has some experience working with struggling brands in tough economic times ? he worked closely with Harley Davidson during some of their darkest days in the early 1980s.

Given the company?s name and guest list, it?s fair to say that their plan would likely involve combining private equity and union assets to fund HUMMER?s future.

It?s a novel idea ? but is it too late? We should have more information after the summi

Man I really hope they can work something out and keep the Hummer up and running. I was at Geigercars in Munich this weekend and it was really hard to find a new Hummer or even a Hummer on the lot.

Got that same letter today. Now the question is what parts should I stock up on for the long haul with my H2? For the next couple of years, I don't think parts will be a problem, but if I'm still around and my Hummer is still around 12 years from now - I wonder what parts will be hard to find?

Makes me wonder if I should still buy one. I located 2003 H2 supercharged w/90k miles no leaks ans is dealer owner for 24,000.00. What do you think? That or 2009 H3 new for 26k. Please give me your thoughts.

Thanks, JASTECH

Stay away from that H2 unless its someone you know and they have had this professionally done. That H2 is now almost 8 years old and close to aging out as far as parts and replacments.

The H3 is Brand New and has alot of unabused life in her. Take the sure shot unless you are a gambling man. Take it from me I have owned over 10 Hummers of all kinds and know when to hold em and when to fold em :-)

H2! Although IMO I don't think I would buy a SC 2003. Pick up a 04 or 05 H2 and SC it yourself if you want. H3's are nice but you'll be wishing you got the BIG Brother in a few months. Do it once ... Do it right
