At the advice of some of you, I've been working on blacking out the hummer: badges removed, center caps painted to match wheels, Adventure spare tire cover painted to match bumper.

You can still see Hummer H3 through the paint on the spare tire cover. I actually like that. It sort of looks like it was intentional -- at least that's how I've rationalized it.

The only thing left is the grill. I temporarily blacked out the grill using a can of temporary bra that is available at Autozone. I'll post a picture when I find the can. The color matches the OEM brush guard exactly. The grill in these pictures is not painted, as you can see

The pictures probably won't work, but I'll try anyways. If not, just click thru to the following:

I think GM now sells body color grills. I have seen them on Hummerpartsonline.com and gmpartsdirect.com.

A black body-color matched grill would complete the blacked out H3!! Looks great!

Thanks again guys for the positive feedback.

I thought that I should elaborate some more on the temporary bra material that seems to match our bumper plastics so well.

The spray that I used is made by Dupli-Color and is called "Shield, Temporary Spray-On Bra Preotection" There is a link below that shows you what to look for.

Basically, you just spray it on an arbitrary part of your car The material needs no time to dry. The material stays in place as long as you don't wash it or drag your finger throuh it.

The material removes quite readily when you do finally wash. Under the seemingly firm exterior crust, a coat of thin grease buffers the crust from your car's paint/chrome.

I'm actually thinking about spraying the bra on my fenders as an experiemnt. I can get a good feel for what it would like with a permanent solution. If I decide that I don't like it, I'll just wash it off.

Lastly, I couldn't find my old can of sprayon bra, so I bought another one just a few hours ago. I probably won't have pictures of the grill painted for a couple of days, because I'm packing up to take a little motorcycle journey for a few days

Never got around to doing the temporary bra thing. Took startin' youngs advice and did the linex instead.

I like it, but even without top coats, the linex is pretty shiny. A coat of low luster paint that matches the OEM brush guard should fix that. Already experimented with some of the temporary bra ontop of the linex -- perfect.

Thanks again for compliments and advice. Hopefully, I'll have some advice one of these days

This pic is of the temp Bra directly on the grill.

It DOES NOT hold up to touch, although it handles heavy rain/mud w/o issues. I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like on my truck without making a permanent commitment.

I liked the look so I think I'm going to try the Dupli-Color spray on truck bed liner this weekend.

After a day of heavy rain and lots of finger/brush touches.

Ipedog,

I compared the Dupli-Color truck bed liner with some Dupli-Color temp bra. Even though the can tops look the same, the colors and textures of the paints are completely different. The truck bed liner is dark black and lumpy. It also doesn't have the hint of sparkle that the temp bra has.

I'm going to start buying up cans of paints that look close and try them each out. If I find anything that matches as well as the temp bra, I'll pass it on.

If the bed liner is a better match than mine, please let us know.

I had figured that it would be darker, which is too bad as the Bra color is almost a perfect match. However, the Line-X is darker and has a lumpy texture as well.

The louvers on the hood are a matt black plastic. Does the Dupli-Color bed liner match that?

How will permenant spray paint hold up to nics and scrapes ? also how will overall finish come out, sometimes with spray cans its a uneven finish with spray marks.
I ussume you would have to sand or emory paper the chrome before painting.

Let us know how it comes out and list some pics
