I am consider buying the H3 for my wife and curious what everyone thinks of it. I hear they are under powered, not sure.

I drive an H2 and have to say it's the best vehicle I have ever owned.

Look under find lot of threads on power.
Best thing to do is go to budget rent a car .Rent one for the day and Run it hard.
I got rid of a 2004 murano that was a rocket.I feel the H3 has enough power,a little more wouldnt hurt.If I want to go fast I take the 442 out for a spin.

Hoopti:

To get a pretty good idea about power, I calculate the pounds/horsepower ratio and pounds/pound-feet torque, allowing 350 lb. for driver and one passenger:
H2 is 20.76 lb./HP and 18.75 lb./ft-lb.
H3 is 22.95 lb./HP and 22.44 lb./ft-lb.
That comes out about 10% less HP and 20% less torque.

A small price to pay considering all of the advantages that the H3 has.

Best regards, Happy Jack

Hoopte - if you have ever driven a truly fast car, then you will realize that your H2 is a slug by road car standards. And the difference between H2 and H3 power/performance is small.

I agree with 442, a fast road car is a sharp contrast to any Hummer. Different vehicle for different uses and different days of the week.

I just got back from the Snow Run in Northern Michigan with the Michigan Hummer Club and ran with some H2's (I have the H3), let me say that my rig could do everything that the H2's could do. In fact, two h2's got extremely stuck in a few ruts that the h3 just wheeled around.

I'd say there's plenty of power for the wife on the road, and plenty of power for you off road.

Guys-
I am not comparing to a sports car. I just heard that it is way under powered for it's weight. Not looking to race it, just want to make sure it's good to go with it's weight size.

Where/who are you hearing it from? Most on this board (the people who drive an H3 everyday BTW) will tell you it has plenty of power.

Could it have more, sure. Best way to find out if its enough for you is to drive it for yourself.

Thanks for the info! I plan on going down this week and test drive one.

Just curious what everyone thought and had to say.

I have owned both. I had an H2 in Florida and now an H3 here in Texas.

Big things: H2 has more options... Nav and so on. Hard to park due to size in normal parking lots. Gas :-( Great storage...

H3; EASY to park, Great turning ratios; not many options. Storage is clunky since seats don't go completely flat. Gas isn't as good as I would like.

Either way I like both. I would have kept my H2 if Ididn't think I was moving to seattle.

I drive the H3 every day and find it more than adequate in every respect. It's funny, when the Ford Explorer came out in '91 with 0 - 60 mph of 11.2 and a quarter mile time of 18.6 @81 mph according to C & D, no one called it underpowered - they said its performance and power were "trucklike." While the H3 has similar performance and even a slightly better quarter time it has been reamed for being underpowered. These are not cars, or sports cars. The H3 is a true offroad vehicle that is at home on the highway and city and gets reasonable mpgs.
