Hello,

I am in the process of doing my first oil change on my hummer h2. I've done a search all over this forum for step by step directions on how to do an oil change on an H2, but no such luck. I'm not a newbie to DIY oil changes, since i do it all the time on my lifted silverado. But when looking under my H2 there is a skid plate covering the oil filter and the oil plug. Do I need to remove the whole skid plate or is there some way around it.

If you guys/gals can direct me to a website or a forum thread that can show me how to do and oil change on my H2...that would be great.

i found tons of threads when i searched, alot of guys like to fashion a funnel out of either cardboard or aluminum foil to somehow bypass the skid plate into the pan, i would actually like to see a pic of that in action, but try to search "oil change" in the search function and u should find a ****load of posts

The last oil change I did, I just pulled the plug and let it drain over the protection bars...with the filter, used aluminum foil to funnel the oil away from the skid plate....either way, it's not too hard to clean with a rag...

Seeing you need to remove skid plate to lube the idler arm, oil on the skidplate should never be an issue. You will also need A 90 deg fitting on your grease gun to lube idler or change out the grease zerk with a 90 deg zerk.

$160.00 to change oil on an H-2, wow. We only charge 34.95 canadian so in US dollars I think I would have to pay you. That includes removing skidplate in order to properly lube all front end components. Someones gettin stroked if they pay any more than $50 for A LOF unless your using A high dollar synthetic oil.
