16 inch wheels

[Hummer H2]

Does anybody know if 16 inch wheels will fit on the H2. I got a great deal on some, but I don;t know if they will fit.

To the best of my knowledge, NO... You have to run 16.5 or bigger due to the brakes. If you run smaller than that they will stick and the rim will not turn....

BADRAP is correct. I was considering a 16" wheel, but was told that it wouldn't clear the brake caliper and assembly. There's about 1/2" of clearance from the wheel to the brake assembly now, so the reason given to me makes logical sense. Altering the wheel diameter by 1" will result in a 1/2" difference from center.

Yep, the caliper will get in the way.

My sources indicate that a 16 wheel will fit. Mine are on order and will post pictures when i finish the supercharger, lift kit wheels and tires.

I have talked to several people and I have been told by these people that work for Hummer and GM and they said that 16" wheels will not fit, you will tear up the calipers and then your rims will warp and brakes will not function properly, if you get them to fit, they said they know people have shaved down the caliper to make them fit, but then you damage the braking system...
Why would you want to put 16" rims on anyway if you are installing a lift kit, most off road tires or I should say the most popular ones are in 16.5" sizes... They look better too, so why risk it???? Phil, I can understand that, was just saying that the H2 will not take a smaller rim than a 16.5"... But understand where you are coming from....

Please don't assume that because 50K plus was spent on a Hummer that you get hummer specific front suspension parts. The front calipers rotors control arms, brake pads are Chevy 2500HD. They come with 16 inch wheels. I want to run the new Mickey Thompson Classic Bead lock wheel. It is not available in a 17. Mickey Thompson has test fit the 16x8 on the Hummer with no modification. I sell wheels and tires on lifted and lowered vehicles for a living. If they don't fit or if I have to modify anything a steak and a beer can be the bet. Any takers.

ps. a new baja claw radial is available. 325/80/16 Measured height 37 width 13.5 diameter 16. That will be a perfect height and width for my H2 with a 3 inch prototype lift kit from Woodland Offroad Products.

Who's Woodland Offroad Products, and what's the details behind their 3" lift?

Woodland Off Road believes that there is a market for a 2-3 inch suspension lift on all these new torsion bar vehicles. ie, Ford F-150, Tahoe Suburban, 1500, 2500, Expedition, Hummer H2. That keeps correct steering geometry, increases ground clearance, and allows for a taller tire. At the same time keeping the cost under $1200 installed. Look for these kits to be around in time for the SEMA show in early November.

All those kits are is new key eyes for the torsion bars and blocks for the back, not $1200 worth of stuff... Not hardly..

I'm sure u have tried to put some of the pre '98 6 lug 16" steel wheels on the 99 and later GM products.
The rim has interference w/ the caliper on the front.
So depending on wheels and where the mounting area for the bead is they could have interference.

Well here is a pic of the new M/T beadlock wheel with 325/80/16 M/T Baja Claw Radial with 3 inch lift. Door sills are about 5 inches taller than stock. Rims and tires cleared with room to spare.

I think the tires would clear without any lift. Those are 16x8 rims with 4 1/4 backspacing. I believe a 16x10 with those tires without a lift might hit. In fact I'm pretty sure that they would. The 16x10 has the same 4 1/4 back spacing so the tire would be 2 inches farther out. Call me old fashioned but I like the look of that tire wheel combination with the taller sidewall. It just makes the truck look taller.
