View Full Version : off centered steering wheel?

Just wondering if you guys noticed that the steering wheel is a little off centered. My seat is about .75 inches off from the center of the driver seat. My back has been bothering me lately and I noticed that my body alignment must be off in the seat but I measured with a scientific "stick".

Anyone else noticed this? You don't notice it until about 5 hours of driving.

Could be just my chair. My husband says it's bc of my "Spanish-ghetto-booty". A possibility, but I don't think so. He agrees it's off a little too.

I read somewhere that it actually is off-center...to the right just a bit. I've noticed this also

Rather common thing with GMAC vehicles.
I was told it's due to the way steering shaft goes through the "dashboard" and once installed, no way to re-center. I've seen it on Yukon's, Grnd. Chrk's, ....

Great so it's not me then!!!

No wonder the lumbar support feels funny on my right side...I have been trying to compensate for the mis-alignment by moving over a tad to the right with my hips to get centered with the steering wheel.

Well chalk that one up on my extremely SHORT list of nit-picking.

Thanks for the input on this one.

First you say you have a "spanish ghetto booty" and then you say you're moving said booty around to get "centered". You own an H2, have desirable anatomy and you move around!! I gotta go lie down- I'm getting woozy!!!

Come on now, you're obviously not occupying the drivers area correctly. Let me explain the proper positioning:

- Slouch down as far as you can & still be able to see over the dashboard.
- Recline the seat into the "lounge chair" position.
- Extend left arm straight out and hold the top of the steering wheel with your wrist, draping your hand over the wheel so oncoming drivers can see your superbowl style rings.
- Right elbow on the center console, hand grooming chain area. This works best if you have a goatee.
- Head should be as centered in the vehicle as much as possible.
- Adjust mirrors accordingly so you can look at yourself from various angles.
- Concentrate on your radio settings.

Hope this helps, although I imagine the goatee thing might be asking a lot of the ladies. The ladies on this forum anyway... /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

You should have read the thread on how to look macho in your H2 that someone posted on the old forum. It was a hoot cause I added how to do it Georgia Redneck Style!!

Love the one about the superbowl ring position!! LOL!!!

A "spanish ghetto booty". Thats very funny but Im married -Happily- So Ill leave that one alone. In reguards to the steering wheel, my Mercedes is the same way but it has never annoyed me.It is my understanding that it is a safety thing.Something about the wheel not going right through your sternum. On my car the column is designed to go down and away (toward door) in a frontal impact.Hope that helps,if not you can use it as an excuse if anyone ever dogges you about it.
