CircuitGuy,
The nav unit is the factory one that comes in the 2004. The adapter is the soundgate one. You can get that at www.logjamelectronics.com (http://www.logjamelectronics.com) it is cheapest there. The cd changer is the cdxp-1280 from pioneer. That is the only parts I needed. The XM module is coming for Christmas. I love it a lot. Espicially because the steering wheel controls are still functional with this setup. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any more info.

DVJ,
I am pretty sure you can. www.soundgate.com (http://www.soundgate.com) is where I got the adapter and they will be able to answer all your technical questions about that. Hope that helps.

Craig,

I like the '04 display. It looks like you will get the full title and artist as opposed to the 03's 8 digit cut off.

Will the 04 system retro into an '03???

cmb31078

I am not sure if it will retro fit. From what I heard is that you cannot buy the o4 nav unit yet from the dealership. They said you must have it first and have a problem with it to get a unit shipped to them. The best bet would be to talk to the dealership and see what they can do for you. If I have mine apart soon I will try to find out the part number if it is listed on the back. A lot of people did not like the unit at first but now that I can use the nav and changer at the same time.. I am in love with it. Works great and no flaws so far. I have a long trip this week and I will let you all know if I find any problems with this setup. Hope this helps.

cmb,

Hey - nice setup. As you know, I am very interested in your setup (Remember I started the post "2004 Nav System Challenge" to get someone to try what you have done.

Good to hear you can use the changer with the Nav at the same time.

Question - Can you get the track information to show on the display of the Nav (Artist, song Title) or do you simply get the track number and time remaining?

Good work!
(You win the Challenge - prize = admiration)

hummer17,
I will get some pictures tomorrow of how it works in nav mode. I simply forgot to today. It will not show the artist and track name in either mode. I am not sure if this is something it is capable of or not. I plan on e-mailing soundgate with these questions. In nav mode it will display the track and disc number and time remaining. This is good enough for me since now I have hte best of both worlds. Navigation and multi-disc changer at the same time. I am loving every minute of it. Let me know if any more questions.

I believe it depends on the CD. Some are "coded" to show artist and song name, others are not.

In my home system some show up and others don't. I don't think this is the head unit as much as the individual CD.

I am anxious, however, to see if XM shows those items in their entirety. On mine, I only get 8 digits (03).

Here is the same unit as I have in mine. It has the same plug connectors and the same mounting brakcets. I know some were asking where you could get one.

What does it take to put one of these(04 nav units) in an 03? Has anyone done it yet?

cmb31078
12-01-2003, 01:15 PM
I have not seen anyone do it yet and I am not sure. The dealership will not sell just the unit. You have to show proof of one to get one from the dealerships. THat is the last I heard. Maybe someone else can help you out better.

I wish I could find someone to put the 04 nav in my 03 as well.

I'm not sure it can be done, but I am sure you can buy the unit.

Maybe not from a dealership, but you can order it online with the Part Number.

cmb,

Patriot makes a good point - maybe the CD you are playing is not encoded with the track information to display.

Try finding a newer CD from your collection and play it in a stereo CD player you know is capable of displaying the information - then try the same CD in your H2 system.

Thanks for all of the testing and information.

Looking forward to the pictures you mentioned.

Craig,

"Boston - Greatest Hits" has CD text.

You can use CD Creator, and probably most any other Audio CD Burning software to create your own CD that has encoded CD Text.

My questions is I thought the 2004 Nav system did not include XM function? I see it on the screen but did not know it was capable of using XM? Any help would be appreciated. Also lets say I have one of these units not hooked up new in box is there special wiring for the Navigational part to work? or can it be used just radio, CD and XM?
Thanks

Is there a way to make the NAV options work while driving? From the factory you need to be driving less than 8 MPH in order to add an address or control functions.

cmb31078,

Do all 12 discs of the CD changer get read?

I heard that only the first 6 will work since the interface is only built for a 6 disc changer just like the Escalades.

Also, where did you mount the XM module?

Do you have pics of where you mounted it?

SoCalH2,
Mine reads all 12 discs and it says disc 12, 11, 10 etc. I am sure you get the idea. As for mounting the Xm I am getting it for christmas. I am going to put it under the rear seat opposite side of the cd changer. Hope this helps some.
