Did anyone see the H2 with a Duramax at the SEMA show? I think it was done by Powerplay

What kind of performance would you get from a duramax?

Let's just say that there would be only be a few trucks that would outpull you once you put in a Duramax.

It also would be a cramped affair. The Allison tranny would also require the need to completly refab the bottom so that it could work. You'd lose some ground clearance unless you did a lift kit.

The bad thing - you'd be burning up half shafts left and right. The next bad thing would be tires. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You can easily get 400HP & 700Lb.ft. of torque out of that engine with minimal tuning. It would be a fuel efficient torque monster. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I want one real bad.

Of course, the cost of conversion would probably offset any savings in fuel etc....

I once emailed hummer with this question , there reply was that it would not fit and would not be offered in the h2 ever . I guess the ol saying "never say never " may come true .lol

that is what I thought as well.. the duramax in its current configuration is about 4 inches too long. it just wont fit. plain and simple. I didnt think it would ever be offered.

A comment on the duramax, of the big three, the duramax is probably the weakest one. The powerstroke is number one, followed by the cummins. the duramax is certainly better then any of the gas engines out thusfar.

Sure the new Powerstroke 6.0 numbers edge out the Dmax but it has had far fewer problems than the Powerstroke 6.0. The 6 cyl Cummins is great on low end torque but doesn't have a very wide power band and is not nearly as fun to drive as the Dmax. It still performs and acts like an old school diesel.

All that would have to be done to the H2 to accomodate the Dmax is a front clip and hood lengthening and redesign. This is quite likely later in the H2's life cycle.

We know GM won't drop a Powerstroke in an H2 so I'll continue to wait for the Dmax and be damn glad if it ever comes to fruition.

A properly tuned one should be able to leave a Supercharged H2 in a cloud of pungent black smoke. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

The only way a Dmax could do that is if the supercharged H2 was "parked" behind it http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

LPE supercharged H2
0-60 mph 6.30
1/4 mile 14.41/95.04

I know first hand, that GM is not planning on installing the Duramax Diesel into an H2, ever. End of story. However, Hummer is looking at many other Diesel engines that are used in other GM vehicle, or joint GM ventures in vehicles sold in other countries, trying to find one that would fit, and be a good engine
for this application. GM is planning on having a diesel in the H2 someday, but don't hold your breath for the Duramax.

I have heard where they are trying to get a little more length to the engine bay and try to drop the engine a little more so an intercooler can sit atop like in the H1.

Also, I was told at a party last night that GM has built a concept pickup on the new GMT-900 platform and that they have a Silverado with the Duramax in it producing over 700lbs of torque and the also put a new 11.5" rear end under it to handle the power. So, if they are beefing up the 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups, some of those parts should make it over to the H2.
