Has anybody done this? It's driving me crazy

VT:

What are the perimeter lights? Do you mean your DRL/reverse lamps when you unlock the truck in the dark?

I imagine you would need to put in a second "hot" line that would be spliced into that circuit’s positive line. I do not know if I would do that - only because the watts on that light bar are probably more than the wires were designed for.

Is it a factory bar?

I poured over the wiring diagrams and the wiring is buried within the BCM circuits. From what I remember I think I found it, but would have to go look again. I was going to wire in some puddle lamps.

An alternative would be to trigger it off of the courtesy lamps inside. Just run a relay triggered by the power to courtesy lamp in the driver's side door.

The Courtesy Lamps should work, But when ever the door is opened won't the lightbars come on too? I was tring to find the wire that send the signal to the DRL's to activate the Perimeter lighting. It seems like it goes thur a timed relay or something. I would like to just lock or unlock the doors and have my lighting come on, like it does with the DRL's and the back up lights.

If I remember correctly, there is one wire each coming from the BCM going to the reverse lights and the DRLs respectively. There is no "external" wire to tap into in either of these circuits for just the perimeter. There is no perimeter circuit that I remember finding exactly.

I have to reload some stuff on my computer and then I will re-visit this idea.

There is a long-about way of controling the trigger, by using a set of relays to control the logic.

I.e., backup light on --> brake light on --> interior light on --> then trigger lightbar..

Of course, if you happen to be backing up with your interior light, and you hit the break, your lightbar will turn on http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif but you get the idea.. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks for the help. I got a relay. The four pins I have a ground, the device, and the reverse light. I only need one more 12 volt wire that is active when the perimeter lighting come on( besides the DRL's)

I just figured it out. If anybody wants their light bar to come on with the preimeter lights and let me know and i will post the relay diagram.

Don't be like that, tell us what you did. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

This might be a good way to add some puddle lamps tucked up in the frame so I don't step in a cow pie at night. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Here is the relay set up to make light bars work with DRL's. Remerber when going from relay number two in pin 86 is a good idea to use a diode. wiring it this way will make sure that the light bar only comes on at night when you push the buttons on the key fob.

Pretty damn cool!

Sorry, This does not function like DRL's. It only functions like the Perimeter lighting option

The circuit is only hot if the DRL's are ON and the ACC is OFF. Correct?

Right. I tried to hook to the DRL's only but when the DRL went on the light bar went on, such as day time. But hooking it up this way only turns it on when the ACC is off and when the DRL's come on. Will only come on when the Perimeter lights come on as described in the owners manual. This works as a switch, you can still hook up to a normall switch too. Just hook into you existing light bar relay on pin 86.

IT works perfect

Pic's of what? the relay set up or the light bars? I got the front and rear XTC bars.

sure - both. Where did you mount them? (relays)

I would like to see them mounted too (Light bars)

I mounted the relays under the dash, I have four relays: 2 for the Perimeter lighting switch, and 1 for front light bar, and 1 for rear light bar.

Very cool! Next time I am near B town I would like to check it out! I am thinking of rear lights - but the SUT roof is so short - so I might Gobi rack the bed and just stick them on there like the other guys have done.
