Skylo5, welcome to the forum.

I don't know squat about lighted sills but since no one else has jumped in here...

I suggest you send a PM to Taz (http://elcova.com/groupee/myspace?x_myspace_page=profile&u=944101188) and ask him for guidance. Best I can see from a site search, he's the only one that's indicated he's done the job.

Thanks Rodster,

Sounds good. I was able to wire the drl's mod but this is more confusing. I'll pm Taz and see what he has to say. Thanks again!

Taz will likely answer but if he doesn't and you want to scan and post the schematic, I'm sure any one of a number of people can help.

Well nothing yet but I am going to contact my dealer and see if they give me guidance. Taz tried (and thanks) but his rig is going through some awesome mods and he is on that timeline. I will post when I get new info. Thanks to all so far. We will overcome!

Sorry Skylo that I could not do more at the moment. I helped an Acc. guy do My install and He did most as I told You in PM. My rig is covered and taped off gtting paint and I figured if nothing else I would just pull the cover and kick panels and write down as I could not remember enough of the install not being the main person doing it. Stay in touch with Me because We are going to pull the plates and put them under a polisher to shine them more and I will make a drawing then incase You have not gotten an answer.
Sorry

Skylo -- How many wires does each unit have coming of it?

Skylo5
10-19-2005, 02:06 PM
Thanks again Taz. I know you are busy so any help is appreciated. Well my dealer was no help even though they are nice. They said they have only installed one set of these and they were not sure which tech/or place did them.

I am going to post the wiring schematic and see what you guys can figure out. One thing that would help me is if I could know where the door micro switch is. If I knew that I could find the wires I need to tap into, but I can't find the micro switch.

How do I post the schematic on this site?

Thanks

Skylo I absolutely shocked that the dealer cannot pull up on there computer the schematic or part list and find the micros. That is how We did was the dealer service manager went to computer looked it up and said here and here etc. I'm going to call My service guy now.

Skylo here is what He and I seem to remember, We did not use micro switch but wired to the floor lights power on the b pillars on each side fo the rig beside the front sets. We are fairly sure but, not 100% since it has been a good while. All your doing is wanting them to come on and off when door is opened so wiring to those B pillar light should take care of that.
I would ask service at your dealer but, that is the direction I would lean unless You can come up with something more concrete.

Taz,

That sounds like a good idea, since the pillar lights are right there. I am going to check into it today and see. Thanks again.

I am working on it now, but looking at the schematic....Does anyone know which wires go to which of the two wires on the light (I opened up the light and there are 2 wires ..BLK w/white stripe and all BLK).

Thanks,

Skylo -- What came in the kit? Any chance you can post photos of all parts? With that and the schematic we may be able to figure it out.

Couple questions I have: Is the microswitch on the schematic the truck's existing switch or is it a switch that's built-in the sill? How big is the inverter and is it a separate box that mounts remotely from the sill?

Skylo5
10-22-2005, 09:40 PM
Rodster,

I will post pictures of the parts on monday.

1. The microswitch is refering to the switch on the truck(somewhere).
2. The invertor is small and is wired into the lights (wiring looks pretty simple) themselves.

I think the pics might help and I will get them up as soon as I can.

Skylo5
10-25-2005, 06:39 PM
Ok, Here is a pic. It looks simple but maybe someone with wiring experience can tell me which wire to connect these two (2 red/ 2 black). I am not into chopping the wiring on my $50,000+ truck...FYI, the wire schematic is on pg 1 of this post.
Thanks

Hmmm. I see two white plugs, each with a red and a black wire. But at the end of the wire pairs, I see one set of black and one set of red.

Do the wires change color in the wrapping or do the wires get switched somewhere so that the reds and blacks end up together?

Skylo5
10-25-2005, 09:33 PM
The wires get switched inside the coverings. I think I can just put both blks on the same connection and the same with the reds.

I can't believe No one knows which wires I can hook these too. I took taz advice and found the wires to a kick light which is activated only when I open the door but I dont know which wires (red or blk) to hook up to the light wires (blk or blkw white stripe).

The red only needs a "hot" source(only when doors are opened) and the blk needs to go to a ground. The clips are just for a quick disconnect.

Does anyone know how to test the car light wires to see which one is hot and the ground?

i'll take pics of the items you'll need to make this project happen. i might not be able to put it together for u in a write up until i have downtime in las vegas, but i'll see what i can do. i'm guessing your fairly unfamiliar with electronics.

I got them hooked up and they are looking sweet! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I took pictures the whole way through and will post the write up on how to do this yourself. It was actually quite simple.

Ok here is the write up on how to install these bad boys. Sorry it took so long but better late than never!

The pictures should be in order with the instructions.

1. Here are the wires with the kit. Also don't forget to turn off the dome lights using the switch next to the headlight switch( this will make the wires you are working with "dead" so you don't get shocked or short out anything).
2. Locate the kick panel light which is behind the driver/passenger seat repectively. Pop the cover off using a small bladed flat head screwdriver (from the top is easiest).
3. This is what it looks like with the light opened, exposing the 2 wires needed for wiring.
4. Now pop open the plastic covering where the kick panel lights are located (It is held with only clips and pops open easily). This will allow you to run the door sill wires through the kick panel light opening.
5. Now cut and wire together the lights (the vehicles grey wire goes to the red wires of the sill lights and the black wire to the black wires of the sill lights) Don't forget to hook the kick panel light up with everything else.
6. I am old fashioned and used solder to connect my wires but you can use any type clip you like.
7. Next put the converter boxes under each door sill along with excess wires. The rear sill only needs to opened alittle bit to place the wires/boxes under them.
8. Test to see if you wired everything correctly, (turn on the dome light switch you turned off earlier) and open/close the doors. (this should activate the door sill lights).
9. Now you want to start putting it all back together. You need to line up the sill light over the kick panel to see how much slack in the wire you need. After you determine this I figured out a little trick. I placed some black electrical tape over the sill wire where it goes under the kick plate. This allowed the me a reference ponit and hid the wire from view.
10. remove all of the double sided tape covering on the new sill and stick the light on it. Place the new sill down in the correct position and adjust the slack in the sill light wire as needed. Once all looks good press the new sill plate down and the sill should pop into its place. Once yo have done this to both front and rear, go ahead attach the new sills securely with the provided screws in the kit ( I used my drill screwdriver but becareful not to screw them in too fast or you will strip the backing of the old sills).
11. Make sure all is popped back together and whola! The second side goes much faster and smooth.

Remember to take your time and it will all come together. Total time for me about 2 hrs.

Skylo great job. As i looked at the pics it brought back memory more. I did think of one thing and it looks like You did it, which is good.
It appears You mounted Your new sills on top of the black plastic sills. I hope you did and I feel bad I did not think to tell You that in the beginning. It made it easier to hide wires etc. and We decide that the plastic would give some cushion against shoes and people standing on them so they would not break the glass lens that spells HUMMER. I have had mine on for a while so We have got to polish them or buy a second set to use for show and switch the others back. Use the same lights but, have a back up if one went bad right at the show.

I bet You get allot of WOWS. I did when people first saw them.
Congrats
