I'm getten ready to take a trip to Bowling Green Ky .For the annual Corvete Action Center Cruise Fest.

So I got My Micro Soft & Streets & Trips out and Ploted a Route. Now ..I'm driving out by myself in my 65 Vette and I was planing to get a Nav unit im my new H3x. And I says..It's a real pain when your driving yourself with no navigator.

So..How about buying a After Market Nav unit like the Garmin..??

Now here's the Rub... I don't No A F_ _ K-en thing about Nav Units as far as who's your Daddy ..(THE BEST FOR THE BUCK).. What do you guys have and use.

And..do these Nav units let you laod a route in to there Memory from lets say Micro Soft Steets and Trips.?

I'm looking for a good unit 12 sat type with WASS...

If you have a laptop, Microsoft S&T usually comes with a GPS mouse that allows for navigation. That's the cheapest way to go at like $80.

For mid-priced, I say the TomTom Go looks decent. I believe that's about $700

But, the best would be Pioneer Avic-Z1. For around $1600. Or since I need to upgrade to a Z1, buy my avic-n2!

I bought a Garmin StreetPilot 2610 "like new" on eBay for $350 2 months ago. It works really well and is fairly intuitive to use. Here's a pic:

...It has a touch screen and a remote (you will use the remote a lot more than you think you will, especially with the H3 dashboard a good distance from you). It is very accurate and gives you a .5 mile and 500ft "countdown" to your next turn.

Do a search on "Streetpilot 2610 review" and you will get a good comparison to other units.

Lesst expensive, and easy to use, this would be the unit to purchase. Especially since there is limited space in a Vette.

So, heading to the Museum. Do you know Adam Bocca?

I've got the garmin 2730 and am really happy with it... the traffic feature is very cool. I like it better than the stock units because its easier to manipulate without taking your eyes so far off the road. Maps are preloaded, Menu's are intuitive, and if you are ever in a metro area with traffic problems, it can pay for itself in time saved in avoiding it. My only beef with it is that it takes longer acquiring satellites on power up than I think it should... but then again the antennae is buried around my Gobi. Garmin makes a great product.

If you just want simple navigation without a lot of bells and whistles, you may want to look at the Garmin StreetPilot i5 or i3.

They're both pretty inexpensive and seem to be designed for a first time user.

I like the Garmin units. And also like the idea of looking on ebay. But..let me ask a question here...Can I plot a route or trip on my Micro Soft S&T and then down load it to the Garmin and have it Prompt me thru that route..??

The AVIC-Z1 is at this moment the most advanced nav out there. It has the most features i have ever seen. I have been shopping around for a nav for the past 3 weeks and as soon as this thing came out, my mind was set.

All of these other units are great two, Microsoft S&T is a great deal if you dont wana go nuts, but if you have around $2000 to waste, the pioneer z1 is the top of the line nav, audio, and video system.

I am wainting for my paycheck at the end of the month, which im getting on monday, and i am ordering it.

oh and by the way the avic-n2 is a great system as well!

as for being able to plan a route in microsoft S&T and then be able to download it to the nav, i dont think you can do that on any of the nav, but i am not 100% sure.

You can however on all of them, type in your destination on the unit itself, or on the avic-z1 and some others you can say you destination, and they will guide you turn by turn with voice or text prompts to your destination.

NCM. I have never met him in the flesh but have spoken to him and posted back and forth on the forums.
