I love Thanksgiving dinner. We will have all our Christmas decorations up by the end of the day Thursday.

Ladies? I have done all the Thanksgiving cooking(and shopping) in my house for the last 20 years. I will fry a turkey and bake a turkey, have mashed potatoes and green bean casserole, oyster dressing, cornbread dressing, corn casserole, bourban pecan pie, and will make a vegetarian meal for my niece(who is coming in from Costa Rica). I generally do all the cooking in my family as wifey doesn't like to cook and I do. Any suggestions for the vegetarian part gladly accepted. Oh yeah, forgot the sweet potatoe casserole. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Our Thanksgiving will be smallish this year, so I won't be making a giant dinner. (thank goodness) And I can't seem to decide what I'm making yet.

Turkey- (possibly deep fried)
Fresh Idaho mashed potatoes and gravy
(or Aunt Mandy's potatoes-yummy)
candied sweet potatoes
red cabbage
veggie? Probably veggie tray appetizer.
rolls

Pecan pie
pumpkin pie
Whipped cream to top.

I might even just make a big Thanksgiving Breakfast/brunch and cook the turkey for afternoon soup and sandwiches.

Joyce, your placemats sound like they're going to be very cool. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif Do you use paint to make the handprints?

It is sweet but I also use sour cream which softens the sweetness. I will post the recipe later as I am at work. I will look for the Tofurkey at Central Market this weekend. Thanks! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yes! But that is something we eat pretty often.
We boil them with Olive oil, Garlic and Balsamic. Then I sprinkle breadcrumbs tossed with parmesan...Then we dip them in garlic aioli.

Sorry, I have been sick.

I am not hosting it this year but I will be bringing Pumpkin Bisque, Pecan pie, and I'm still contemplating if I should bring another pie/desert or something else.

I wish I could bring gravy, this woman, my aunt's mother- absolutely love her to death but every time she comes she ruins the gravy. She hovers around the kitchen until it's time and swoops on in with Kitchen bouquet and makes it a dark brown. It's okay, but not the golden turkey gravy that I love. It's actually pretty funny now.

I am making greenbean casserole, stuffing, a turkey breast and mashed potatoes (with my own damn gravy) just so we will have leftovers for awhile. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

I don't like anything weird and don't like people trying to finesse up Thanksgiving with weird recipes. I stick to the basics and make sure they are perfect and there is plenty.

Orbital-25yo of course! Corn casserole-one can cream. corn, one can reg corn drained,1/2 onion finely chopped, 2 eggs,8oz sour cream,1/2 stick butter,1&1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese, one box corn muffin mix. Combine all ingredients reserving 1/2 cup of the cheese. 350 degree oven. I use an iron skillet greased but a casserole dish greased works as well, about 9by 9. Cook for 30 to 45 minutes, until firm in middle and lightly brown on top. Just before it is done sprinkle the remaining cheese on top. Cook for five more minutes. There are a lot of corn casserole recipes out there. This is a combo of about three. Easy, fast and a crowd favorite.

Yup, just any old acrylic paint. I think the brand was Folkart, you can get it at Michaels or Wal-Mart. I got tan canvas, cut it to size (18x13in) and finished the edges with bias tape. I'll embroider the year and guests name after the painting is finished.
