Okay, I know it's not "appropriate" to say that four letter word (Jeep) but I had a chance to drive a new Commander today. A family from our church just bought it and I must say, that damn Hemi screams! I read the specs today and it state 0-60 in 7.9 seconds but it felt faster. No lack of power here boyz.

The Jeep had factory Nav, DVD, 3 sunroofs, leather, backup sensors, 7 seats, and a pretty advanced 4WD system. He paid under $43K. I have to admit I was a bit envious. Come on, it has a Hemi! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

I haven't seen one yet. are they about the size of an H3? I heard that they're not much bigger than a cherokee..

I would guess the average H3 is about $35,000 so the Commander is $8,000 more.

For that amount it better have a bigger engine.

But even with the better performance it's still no HUMMER and you can't put a price on the "Coolness Factor" of the H3. HUMMERS turn heads wherever they go and Jeeps rarely get a second glance.

You got that right. I have a Jeep dealership near me and I have to say... The Commander rate a 10 in the boring factor looks wise.

Doc, it seemed to be about the size of a Ford Explorer. However, the interior volume seemed much larger as the roof rises from the second row on.

I agree with the rest of you that it might not register on the "teutonic arrogance" scale but I think the H2 and H1 have the honors there.

I'll get over it, it's just engine envy! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Having seen pics of both the H3 and the Commander going over the Rubicon, thre's no question that the H3 is the more capable.

The Commander I saw DID make it to Wentworth Springs but it had ripped the crap out of it.

The H3s made it through no problem.

A lifted WK or XK will clear 33” to 34” tall rubber, depending on wheel width and offset.

Needs 4" of lift to fit the same size tires as a stock H3. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

It looks like the result of smashing an LR3 together with a Cherokee! And I second the boring looks statement. Nice options, but really not a HUMMER! IMO http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

The ad actually gives the impression it can go under water (kids looking at sharks, swimming overhead). Just waiting for someone to sink one and sue for false advertising. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Actually, there's a disclaimer at the end of the ad that says its a fictional representation. That means D-C either thinks potential Commander buyers aren't bright enough to figure that out by themselves, or has taken legal paranoia to new heights (or depths?).

I understand their paranoia, and their is merit to that paranoia. However, it is not in Spanish or any other dozen languages, and in this country where a woman can obtain about 400K for spilling hot coffee in her lap, I put nothing past anyone.
