Ok, so it's not a new tire system.

I've seen a hood on E-bay this week(dont know how much, there's also a lower arm thats been on there for a while for $150.00, I,ve also got some used ball joints you can have. there still good.

smashed&bent
01-14-2006, 01:30 AM
actually i am getting a new hood, door, and some new panels to fix the sheetmetal. i got all new ball joints and an idler and pitman arms from blue hummer outfitter that i installed today. it should be rolling by tomorrow afternoon. i've got new wheels and tires for it waiting to be bolted on. should be fun.

Ground hawg
01-14-2006, 01:33 AM
OK sounds like you've got every thing sorted already.

COMON WHAT YA HIT??????

smashed&bent
01-14-2006, 01:37 AM
sorry, did not provide details of the accident. the rig hit a bridge pylon (sp?) at freeway speeds, sheering off the upper and lower balljoints and slamming the tire into the driver's footwell. the rim was still in the tire, but broken into 6 pieces. the halfshaft was gone. i bought it like this from a wrecking yard in El Paso TX. it is a 2000, with 60k mi. i cant wait to drive it, i still have never driven and H1...

Ground hawg
01-14-2006, 01:43 AM
wish i could see whats left of the bridge!!!

I'm with Dug. Go first with some polishing compound, then a less abrasive cleaner wax, then a couple of nice coats of carnuba and she'll be awesome.

Seriously, nice work. I would NEVER tackle something like that.....Good luck and keep the pics coming!

I agree more pictures please.

Do you care to share what kind of deal you made on your new toy?

The only hard thing about driving a H1... It is hard to do without having a smile on your face. It is real fun and some times challenging in mechanicle skills department. I can tell you aint skeerd though. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I just finished an identical repair on the passenger side. I bought a cut-off front suspension and a new frame rail. Kascar has the floor pan and foot well area. Jeep acres has the A pillar under the windshield. I have the huge rivets (had to buy 400), everything else is rather common. Also have an extra military hood, slightly damaged.

sorry for the long wait on the update pics guys!! i've been busy both with the hummer, and working for a living. and my wife is pregnant with our second daughter, so my garage time has been interupted with late night ice-cream runs!! the body work is all done, panels put back on, etc. just needs to go in for paint. the interior is done, save for some misc carpet pieces i'm waiting on. been drivin her around a lot, drives great (of course, its the only H1 i've ever driven). stereo is done, sounds awesome. enjoy!!!

smashed&bent2
07-10-2006, 12:01 AM
thanks for the compliments guys. its been a lot of work. as for stuff really difficult, well, removing all the old stuff wasnt fun. but the most difficult/frustrating/time-consuming would have to be re-wiring the door. i must have spend 4 hours trying to run the wires to where they needed to be, then trying to hook them up properly. the wiring for the mirror was ripped off, so i had to create that part. also, the wiring for the hood was destroyed, so i had to create a new harness for the entire hood (blinkers, head lights, etc). installing the new body panels was actually pretty easy. its headed for paint here this coming week, so i'll be sure to throw some pics up when its back.

If you run a carfax, you'll see the registered owners' names.

Or pop the hood and compare to pictures....

at least if it is the one you bought, you know what was involved in the repair-- assuming you didn't pay 70k.
