View Full Version : Quick question about the driving lamps in the cross bars.

I like the H2's when they have 4 of the crossbars on the roof....especially when they have the driving lamps in the front one.

My question is, can I install the lamps in the front bar or do you have to buy them already mounted? If you can mount them, where do I get the lamps?

Thanks,

Mark

Do you want the lamps mounted inside the bar, like XTC light bars, or do you like the lights mounted on a stock roof rack cross bar?
Can you find a pic of what you like?
I believe, both of these can be found here on the H2source in the store.

I want the lamps that's mounted in the bar. Are those what you're calling XTC lamps? If so, can I buy the lamps separately and install them in a stock bar?

thanks,

Mark

If you are talking about the factory lamp setup on the '06 H-2, from what I know so far they come pre wired from factory and dealer installs bar with lights only, harness is already installed. Prior to that harness and lights were installed at dealer, same harness for both setups but it seems harness can not be ordered seperate(i may be wrong.) If you can get the factory setup very painless to install, but 2 center lights sit below sunroof wind deflector. The XTC is a nicer setup and just as easy to install, lights are brighter and sit above sunroof wind deflector. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. I agree about the XTC setup but I have the opportunity to purchase an add'l two bars and thought I could install my lights in them myself. (I like the ends of the stock bars better than the XTC bars)

Thanks again,

Mark

I have the XTC bar lamps. They Use a Piaa 2100 light with a custom mount. Hard to duplicate. But are very bright and worth it. I got both of mine brand new for $325.00 each on ebay. I bought both rears. I only had to buy $10.00 in parts to make 1 work in the front. well worth it.

If you have any suggestions on how to mount the lamps to the bars, I'd love to know. The lamps don't look like anything more than those cheap driving lamps with the little black plastic strips on either side of the lens.

I just can't think of a good way to secure them without jerry rigging them.

Because I have an issue parting with more money they I have to...I would make a set. Plus you can do it JUST they way you want.

Orange:

Look at getting a stock bar, with the "feet". Then take a look at some driving lamps. There are so many on the market that you will be able to pick just what you want. Some of the companies I have found to be the best are the following:

Hella
Phillips
PIAA
BOSCH
(some people like KC, but I am not a fan)

Many of these type (stock) driving lamps can be picked up pretty easy. Some even have a T-bolt that sticks out the back with a swivel style mounting system. If you measure out where you want the lamps, and then take the middle - that is probably where the bolt is going to go. You will have to tap out the stock bar, and make the hold just a tiny bit larger than the T-bolt (stud). I personally would also seal the bolts with RTV sealer befor putting the nut on. Some lamps have the wires going through the T-bolt, but most have them coming from the back some place - out of some rubber grommet or something. You might have to drill a small hold to feed each lamps wires through too...or one for all. Either way, you want to be sure you add a rubber grommet that you can poke though, and that will save the wires from shorting out, and tearing their jackets.

Wire in series, and make sure you use a fuse, and you may also want to use a relay. All the wiring should be hidden inside the bar (tube). Getting it into the cab can be done though the roof mounted lamp (orange lamp).

Check it out, let me know if you need any help.

ok, here is a pic of some mounting idea like I was talking about. Just a quick search on ebay turned these up. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I know they are crappy looking, and I am not saying to get these, but this is the type I was talking about. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

VT,

Thanks man. I looked at both set of lights you showed. I'm still not sure on which bar to buy. I had my mind made up to get the stock looking bar but the more I look at XTC setup, the better it looks.
