37s on an H2

I am about to purchase an H2 up here in the Great White North (a little green in Vancouver mind you, but that is why we have Whistler).

I have never been able not to mess with my vehicles. All you current H2 owners - have any of you put 37 inch tires on your stock wheels and can you give some feedback on any rubbing issues during wheeling (for you pervs, not that kind of rubbing! though I know there are some of you who REALLY enjoy wheelin')

Anyhow - any comments are welcome.

The local 4 x 4 specialty shop says that the H2 will clear 36s without rubbing at full turn-lock.

I have no desire to change wheels and I certainly would not go larger than a 17" wheel for off-road performance, so I think tire selection is pretty limited. Som one else can chime-in, but I know of Dunlop, ProComp, GoodYear, and BFG that make M/Ts or A/Ts in 35x12.5x17 and I know of no manufacturer that makes 36s in a 17 wheel set.

I was hoping that Interco (maker of Swampers) would offer a 36x12.5x17 - no luck so far.

Is that your yellow H2? If so, do the 37" MTR's rub at all? Ever?

No, but mine is yellow. The owner does say the 37" Goodyear MTR's don't rub. They look quite bit biggerthan the stock tires. Nice Hummer.

Has he ever taken it off-road and really tried it out? I really like those tires.... just want to make sure they don't rub under any circumstances.

BFGoodrich makes a 37x12.50x17 in both all terrain and mud terrain. Goodyear also makes the GSA 37x12.50x17 as this is the factory H1 highway tire. Four Wheel Parts Wholsalers said he put 37's on one in August.

There was a discussion on the H2ML about a more aggressive 37 rubbing a little, even with the lower wheelwell pulled back with a sheet metal screw. I'm also considering the Stinger-Mac setup when it's finished, if it's not too top-heavy.

I'd like to hear how it goes with your changes.

The link now works and those 37s do look really nice on the H2. I like the fact that they fill the wheel well better, but rubbing and loss of a little power may be the trade-offs.

I'll let a few more people act as guinea pigs before I decide to go with 37s or not.

Regarding the 37's rubbing, if that was Craig you were talking about, he said they had to pull the something's back and screw them down...and even then they still rub just a bit. His response was "so what".

He also told me the MTR's are a good deal noisier, won't last very long and almost not advisable. I'll give Craig a shout to see what he says.
