Superchargers and Warranties

I was supposed to pick up my '04 Lux today but thaere was a glitch installing the 3rd TV screen. I asked for installation in the headres in front of the third row seat and the dealer said they had to order it special beacuse the headrest fold when the second row seat is folder down. SO now I have to wait three more days http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif. Anyway, I have been thinking about taking the extra time to let the fealer install a supercharger. The dealer wants $8,500 installed. The salesman says it is covered under the manufacturer's warranty if the dealer installs it. The sales manager says the warranty is actually provided by the supercharger manufacturer. Any on you knowledgable folka have any ideas on the best supercharger system and prices installed? More importantly, has anyone had any experience with warranty service with an installed supercharger. Hey BA:
Why do you think you need a Super Charger?? If you have ever gone off-roading horespower or speed is never a problem!!! If you are trying to compete with the BMW's of the world, I suggest you get a sports car. If you like to drive fast, remember there are speed limmits and you will eventualy get cought. A supercharger will do lots for a street rod and by the way the H2 is a 6,400lb brick.

The 316hp stock engine is plenty off-road and seems to have a fair amount of passing power on the highway. Keep in mind that the extra power you garner from the mod will affect all the other components behind it.

A couple of things you should ask your-self.
1) Why did I buy an H2?
2) What do I want to do with my H2?

If your into off-roading at all..I would reccomend 37" tires, winch, and front lockers. All for about the same price of the super charger.

The Mod company assumes the warrenty!!

It's your money spend it as you like.

Your dealer is probably selling the Magna-Charger unit. This is a very good system and received a award from GM as the best aftermarket product of the year.I installed one on my H2, 10,000.00 miles ago, and have not had any issues. It greatly improves torque for off roading and allows me to pull my 24' enclosed car hauler with out any problems. In my opinion it is a very good investment.

I agree if you want speed buy a sports car.. I have a supercharger on ly Suburban .. I use it for Law Enforcement work at times. With the supercharger I can get the SUb out of its on way..

There is no pracical reason for the Charger. Now my answer to anyone who asks why I bought a toy.." I wanted It!"

I think if you are smart you will purchase the Supercharger aftermarket and then have the dealer install it.. I think you will come out ahead... The dealer has a nasty markup on that type of stuff and you have to also consider when you try to get rid of it what you will do about it then.. If you purchase it yourself then you can uninstall it when you sell your H2 and then re-sell it... I would think about this more before you go into the dealer for that kind of cash... You can get SC aftermarket and save the money that you would pay the dealer and just pay them the hourly install rate....

BA, I love having the complete LPE set up. While going off road the speed is not necessary, it is NICE to have the extra couple hundred lb ft of torque even though I doubt I have ever needed it. Anyone stuck and needing a snatch will appreciate it too. You also do not sacrifice MPG.
With a SC you will have added much needed power to a most capable off road vehicle and the ability to scare the heck out of sports cars as you keep up or go by them leaving stoplights. Then you can wave, turn right and head for the mud.

The supercharger doesn't make the H2 "fast"...it just makes it more drivable.

Before, it was "OK" but was still a bit pokey. After, it drives more like a regular vehicle with the proper V8-to-weight ratio. Nothing radical...just smoother and easier to drive.

It is, however, nice in one regard. Before the supercharger people would pull up next to me in their piece-o-**** pick-ups and frown and then pull away and then cut me off. Classic jealous move. Now, I just pull away and keep right up with them and look over and watch the surprise on their face and my "Orange brick" keeps up just fine!!...and sometimes leave them in the dust!

Patriot, you nailed it on the head. On a two lane road you can pass with confidence knowing you can get up to passing speed quickly.
As the Motor Trend article, and many members of this site have mentioned, the vehicle is underpowered for its weight. Even with 316hp stock. To quicken the rig to a respectable pace would cost GM millions and drive the cost of this vehicle out of reach of it's target buying group as an alternative to the street "only" Escalade and Navigator. As I type this it should also be mentioned that I believe GM did a good job with that balancing act. Diesel anyone?

If any of you drive in the mountains you know how irritating the constant down shifting gets because of the lack of torque for this sized vehicle. I have found when wheeling in deep sand with long inclines, the H2 can get bogged down significantly. I am looking into the Whipple SC. Can you tell me if you need to buy higher octane gas now?
