I'm busy, but depending on the day I'm in. Never been to Texas canyon, in the H3 that is.

looks like the best day for me to make it is June 11th (sunday). I'll watch for what days are good for anyone else and decide whether it will work for me.

is anyone up for this Thurs or Friday am? My truck is too clean for me to stand (but sporting a fresh coat of wax begging for brushrake). It's embarassing driving a clean hummer -- looks like a mall queen.

Any trails out by you? My book doesn't show any but I've seen cool looking trails zig-zagging up the hills when going north on the 101 (back in the day when I took my truck to 1000 Oaks Hummer).

hey ron , we used to be able to go into hill canyon , it was nice hill climbs and stream crossings . Not anymore so much building goin on we have been forced to go to the OHV parks . cant even wheel up in the Sespe area up by Ojai . only runs we do local are valencia and goreman . we do love the weekends in pismo but too far for day runs . june 24th and 25th are the next dates for pismo . it will be a big turn out norcal hummer group and socal hummer group , along with a bunch of party crashers like me :D . you should try to make that one for sure

RonB
05-16-2006, 06:20 AM
well, I guess it's rower, miller, and/or gorman. The initial climb on rower (from the bouquet resevoir side) is fun, but the rest is pretty tame. miller is easy, but fun (dusty with ALOT of tight switchbacks). We've all been to gorman...some fun climbs (including the one that took out my tie-rod, driveshaft, airshocks, and trailing arms on my H2 a few years back). I'm up for most anything. Just need to get out...sooner the better.

Ha Ha funny. During the week is tough for me unless it's last minute. I don't typically know my days schedule until the previous evening. Texas canyon is much closer though

I may have been through texas canyon and not known it -- is it the back way into rower from the 14 or a completely different trail? Is it more than a fire road?

hi ya Ron! :)

Guys, if Ron's gonna lead, let's do John Bull! He won't let you get in (too much) trouble! :D. LOTS of fun!

No climbs, no mud, no loose sand. Just rocks, more rocks, lots of rocks, and bragging rights ;)

Btw, H3ers, you MUST have uc protection to run this trail.

NEOCON1

sounds great :D john bull sounds like fun , have never been on it before but i do have UC protection . we are allways up for a new adventure , where is this run at ? and what is a good weekend date for you guys . i can make just about any weekend except for this sunday the 21st.

It's a little aways in Big Bear (unfortunately). But this is one of those trails you don't mind the 2.5 hours drive to, since it's fun the entire trail start to finish. After scenic Gold Mountain start, there isn't any other boring fire roads between fun obstacles. Also do-able in 3 to 4 hours (maybe 5), not 9 - 12 hours like Golden Spike. Baring any unforseen disasters (and if you don't mind a little dented muffler and underbody & rim scratches), I guarantee you'll have FUN!! :D :D

Ron????

RonB

Horace knows this trail as well or better than me. He actually met some jeepers there who were starting **** here on the forum and proved he could follow them everywhere they went. Sweet. A fun trail. there's one section that is tricky, alot of belly dragging.

Ron B

RonB
05-18-2006, 03:34 PM
here are some pictures from the last time I was there. A bit of brush-rake, a bit of belly-dragging, a ball-joint failure -- sweet! It is a trek there and back, but not too bad for a good trail and some pretty decent bragging rights. This is not a fire-road.

RonB
05-22-2006, 03:59 AM
do not fear, you will be in good hands...the last thing we want is for anyone to break anything. The "broken paw" was a ball joint failure -- long over-due for a change. Once we had a replacement balljoint, it was up and running in less than an hour.

Not gonna happen for me. To far away. Also, no UCP. By the pictures, I'd be walking to work on Monday if tried that. I'll hold out till Pismo or watch for something a little less aggressive.
Thanks guys, Have a good time.

OUTSTANDING!!

Since you'll be coming in from 101, you may want to convoy with Ron (he's somewhere on 101). I'm sure he'll check in soon.

The trail head is somewhere in Big Bear (you enter from Gold Mountain warm up trail). It should take you about 2.5 hours (takes me that long too from South Bay). Whenever the drive starts to drag on, just think of all the cool pics you'll be able to post. Heck, you'll prob be the first H3 ever at John Bull!:D

Wilfred & I will prob convoy. Perhaps we can all meet at Big Bear Tourist Center? (can't remember if you need to buy the park pass for day trip -- but if we must, that's where you can get em at). 9am ish? Ron?

Bring food, liquid, energy bar/ drink (4 hours NON-STOP ROCKS -- YEEHAWW!! :D). Gloves too (did I mention rocks?). CB to BS, and camera to shoot the "HUH??!! " faces when the heavily-modded drivers see us in the middle of the trail..

(Other H3ers, remember, you MUST have u/c protection to survive JBT!)

Hi guys,
it will be fun. I promise lots of smiles and a few puckered butts. Take off the side steps!

The Gold Mt trail-head is right off the 18, on the north side of the lake a few miles east of Big Bear. Gold Mt. will take a few hours and lead us to John Bull. JB is also a few hours assuming no drama.

Neocon, I'm next to Universal Studios, so we can convoy. But be warned...I'm a slow-poke, so you won't hurt my feeling if you'd rather meet farther down the road (maybe if we leave our houses at the same time you'll catch-up/pass me close to the 15?!).

Ron B

NEOCON1

Alright! 9am @ Big Bear Visitor Center, I just googled it and this is the first showing up. RonB & H2Finally, please confirm there is only one visitor center and this is the one?

http://www.bigbear.com/about/visitor_center/

630 Bartlett Road
Big Bear Lake, CA 92315

Are we using CB or FRS?

RonB
05-23-2006, 08:49 PM
In the past we've used the Discovery Center or the Ranger station on the other side of the lake -- less crowded, lots of parking, and not in the middle of the village (which can be a nightmare on a Sat). The trail head for Gold Mtn is somewhere in the area of "A - 10" on the lower map including Baldwin Lake (select directions and maps, then select the printable version).

We could meet at the trail-head -- there's lots of room to park/air down if I remember correctly, I have a topo program so I could post the gps coordinates. It really doesn't matter to me -- just trying to stay away from crowds.

Ron B

H2Finally
05-23-2006, 09:29 PM

why don't we meet at the Discovery Center -- parking, restrooms, hookers, maps if you want them. It's on 38 about 5 or 6 miles before you hit the trail-head (between Fawnskin and the Stanfield cutoff). The Ranger Station is a 1/2 mile or so farther east on 38 (I only say this because I have adresses for both, but gps coord. for the Ranger Station only).

The adresses:
Big Bear Discovery Center
41397 North Shore Dr (HWY 38) 909-382-2790

Big Bear Ranger Station

Gold Mnt trailhead/HWY 38 -- approx N 34deg 16' 28" W 116deg 49' 10"

The time is up to you guys. Bring your recovery gear, tie-rods, and take off the side steps or the trail will do it for you!
