After poking the now deceased badger with my knife to make sure he was in fact deceased I started the extraction process. He was 2 feet down the hole so I had to grab him by the ear and pull him up a bit so I could get a hold of his neck.

After handling him I have to say that I'd rather take my chances with two pissed off Rotties than tangle with one badger. They are packed with dense muscle and the claws are nasty.

No wonder the holes they excavate are so perfect.

Here's a 3 shot group at 114yds off a window rest from the H2 with a very slight cross breeze. The top 2 shots are from a buddy's .17 with an unfamiliar trigger. The target's actual size is 12h x 8w.

Best be careful DRTY, the authorities at the petting zoo may catch on some day. ;)

Every once in a while someone gets caught here shooting zoo animals and trying to get them over the fence. Last guy shot a huge elk with a bow and had it quartered before someone spotted him.

She's 14.5 lbs. I wanted the extra weight for stability and less recoil.
I made a great DVD of our last trip. It's a winner.:D:D

Damn, that's a hefty firestick. Is it a DPMS Panther? I assume it basically doesn't recoil at all?
Is there a link to the video?

It's a DPMS that I custom ordered in '97. At the time the 24" extra heavy bull barrel wasn't available to the public. Most every thing on it was top of the line. I forget what all is on it. Most of the guts are titanium, though.:D

For those of you who love in or near grizzly country, you should probably read the following:

MONTANA DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME ADVISORY ON BEARS
Helena Montana, May 15, 2006
In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear conflicts, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field. "We advise that outdoorsmen should wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that aren't expecting them," a spokesman said. "We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear".
It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear paw prints and scat.
A grizzly's paw is larger and its claws are longer than that of a black bear. Black bear scat contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly scat has little bells in it and smells like pepper.

Only time I had the opportunity to go bear hunting was in the fall of '04 after I finally drew my bear permit in Colorado. Unfortunately, I moved here in August and couldn't go back that early in my job.:(

Where can you hunt bear around here? I'd love to go, but I've never even shot a compound bow. So, I'm probably not a good candidate.

I may be setting up a hunt within the next few months. A guy at work has a buddy that hunts BlackBear, and mentioned he will get me his number so we can get set up! He says he brings in some weigh as much as 450-500lbs.
I've got 2 buds from Texas coming in for a hunt, and anyone else that may be interested is welcome! Still in the talking stages, but it's never too soon to start planning!

Hey is that offer good around say....the first of September? I'll just use a paint gun because I don't want to hurt him really bad, I want to have at least a good 30 min of target practice. ;) ;) :D :D
