What we did in 4 days in Moab, will take the locals years if never. Kinda sad for folks who live there and never have the sack to even try.

Nice to see it again. In person was so much better. PhilD drove up it like it was a driveway.
After the 2nd stock H2 drove it do you remember the woman across the creek saying, "NO WAY!!!", and turning and walking away in disbelief? That was a priceless moment.http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It's funny cause it doesn't look very challenging from the vid. I'm sure it's way more impressive being there in person.

The music in that vid is classic. Gonna have to start calling PhilD "Jack"

I agree H2_SUT_SC, it would seem that I have caught far more aggressive H2 footage. I think video (and photos) lose that intense climbing and incline.

That looked pretty tame for PhilD.

How about H3 Wheelie's. Hey Phil S. I think that is your truck.

Potato Salad is one famous obsticle in Moab MOST Jeepers fear and fail to climb (<STRIKE>Stock or </STRIKE> Modified) and claim NO H2 can handle. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gifYou rarely see an H1 attempt it. They also fear it. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

You guys make this look too easy. Just amazing!

From the vids above I noticed a few things:
1. All of you seemed to drive straight up the "fall line" if the hill.
2. The Jeep guys seemed to drive across the fall line. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
3. The Jeeps rolled, you didn't. It seems that driving straight up is the way to go. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Across the fall line is a recipe for disaster. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
4. That guy "Ed" from the vids has $hitty luck http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
5. If you have a Jeep don't attempt to drive Potato Salad Hill!

DRTYFN

H2s have the nearly perfect wheelbase for Moab. Jeeps don't.
PhilD's lifted H2 made so many of Moab's obstacles look like speed bumps. I don't think I would be as confident in a lifted Jeep with its shorter wheelbase.

KenP
11-02-2005, 06:09 PM
Remember, we drove one of those short wheelbase things one day. It was scary on some uphill parts. You could tell the front end was light. But it sure did squeeze through some tight spots with tons of room to spare. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Ipedog
11-02-2005, 06:13 PM
Is that why the Jeeps would try to go up Potato Salad across the fall line? Because the Jeeps wheelbase is so short that if they tried to follow the line you took they would roll over backwards?

DRTYFN

Mud,
What do you mean by "a nearly stock Rubicon"? Front locker equipped?

Did you make it up the Escalator? I'd love to see pics.

Mudinyeri
11-03-2005, 01:49 PM
Stock Rubicons have both front and rear lockers. By "nearly stock" I mean that I had modified the breakover angle by installing a Nth Degree tummy tuck. That was the only clearance modification I had at the time. I also disconnected the sway bar to run much of Moab.

I didn't attempt the Escalator. That's one obstacle where the longer wheelbase and wider track of the H2 play HUGE.

I'd say the Jeep was a little less hairy on Golden Crack, though. You guys were catching some serious air!

You guys may remember me. I haven't been around much for a couple months - extremely busy. I came over around the time of the forum wars with JeepForum.com and explained my whole H2 Recovery Team story.

The brief version, for those who weren't around or have forgotten, is that a buddy of mine bought an H2 about the same time I bought my Rubicon. We were talking about them and got around to the H2 stuck on a tree stump video and Dennis' tie rod video and I jokingly said, "Well, I'm happy to be your own personal H2 recovery team if you run into any trouble." We both got a laugh out of it because he will NEVER wheel his H2.

Anyway, I mean no offense by it. Just having fun with my buddy and others who get the humor. Those that don't get the humor would probably be pi$$ed at me for something else if it wasn't the decals.

I know you guys wheel hard and I'd love to wheel with you some day. If you recall, I posted an invite for you to attend my club's annual event in Kansas in September. No H2's showed. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I'm also fairly well-known to the main folks at OMAHOG here in Omaha.

Keep the shiny side up!

Were you able to make it over the top of the ledge there, at Potato Salad?

Mudinyeri
11-03-2005, 01:59 PM
Yes, I was able to make it over the top. When the pictures were taken I had stopped because my TC skid was up against the ledge. I backed up and hammered it to get over. Incredibly, I bent the Nth Degree skid in the process. You guys may not be familiar with Nth Degree as they are a Jeep shop but their skids are made out of 1/4" steel and reinforced with vertical ribs. I couldn't believe I bent it! They couldn't either. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Funny you should ask. This was during the ROF run back in May of this year and I couldn't get a single one of them to come with me!

I went out there by myself just to take a look and ran into two guys in old beater YJ's (older Jeep Wranglers for the uninitiated) who were just finishing their runs. I asked if they would be willing to wait around while I gave it a shot and they were happy to.

On a somewhat related note, I am officially persona non gratis at ROF. Some of their leadership and I don't see eye to eye on some very basic issues. There are several others who have the same issues. We tend to gather at http://www.rubiconforum.com. Any of you are welcome over there.

We don't need to get too far off on this O.T. tangent, but, as far as I know, none of the leadership has changed and it was some of them that I wasn't able to come to terms with.

It's funny cause it doesn't look very challenging from the vid. I'm sure it's way more impressive being there in person.
