My screen name JamesT comes from my late Great Uncle JamesT Sr. who used this screen name during WWII. He used this name to communicate enemy position and strategies to the Pentagon on a top secret forum that was being used. While this forum was left over from WWI, it was still active and quite effective.
PhilD has a similar story but it was him in WWII communicating for the Brits http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The best "Hollywood" radio call sign I ever had. Battle because it was the 2d Squadron 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment call sign, Bugs because, at the time, I was a Nuclear, Chemical, Biological warfare officer (Kick their ass with bugs and gas... kind of like calling the surgeon Doc)...hence BattleBugs. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

He inspired the sonnet line, "some corner of a foreign field, that is for ever England." after he fell and died in some corner of a foreign field, after been attacked by forum heavies posing as bitterenders.
If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>I skipped all that. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

Mine came from the grand old days of computing, when we still used mainframes.
I was working for a government contractor, and the go-to guys that really knew the mainframes best (DEC VAX 11/780's, 11/750's, and the newest 8974's) were unofficially nicknamed the "Beastmasters".
I was added to their unofficial ranks when I was optimizing the distributed cluster to finish a project in time and I ended up eating 90% of the cluster's cycles - just for me. Messed up all the other engineers and programmers, but I got my research stuff done in time! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I've had the nickname online in some way, shape, or form since the mid 80's. And I still have all of my VAX manuals on my bookshelf. I still can't bear to toss them.
