BOULDER, Colo. ? A man arrested in Thailand is being held in connection with the slaying nearly a decade ago of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey, U.S. officials said Wednesday.

Colorado authorities scheduled a news conference Thursday to discuss the case, but declined further comment.

Federal officials familiar with the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the man was already being held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges. Media reported that the suspect, a 41-year-old second-grade teacher, will be brought back to the United States this weekend.

The girl was found beaten and strangled in the basement of the family's home in Boulder, Colo., on Dec. 26, 1996.

Law enforcement officials from Boulder were flying to Bangkok to present Thai authorities with documents in the slaying, officials in Washington said. They asked to remain anonymous pending an announcement in Colorado.

KUSA-TV of Denver, citing no sources, reported that the suspect has confessed to certain elements of the crime.

Officials in the Boulder County District Attorney's Office had no immediate comment. Nor did local police and sheriff's officials.

The girl's parents, Patsy and John Ramsey, had been under an "umbrella of suspicion" in JonBenet's death. The Ramseys said an intruder killed their daughter. A grand jury investigation in Boulder ended with no indictments, and no arrests had been made in the case.

Patsy Ramsey died in June.

In 2003, U.S. District Judge Julie Carnes in Atlanta concluded that the evidence she reviewed suggested an intruder killed JonBenet. That opinion came with the judge's decision to dismiss a libel and slander lawsuit against the Ramseys by a freelance journalist, whom the Ramseys had named as a suspect in their daughter's murder. The Boulder district attorney at the time said she agreed with Carnes' declaration.

Definitely a fall guy. He was stuck in a Thai prison for a child molestation conviction and was given a way back to the States. Mom is roasting in a hot place right now.

Brother was on the TV last night (via phone...Greta show, Fox News), and said that he doesn't believe it, and that he is checking photos of that time to see if brother was in GA at a family get together at the time of her death. He is supposed to be on Greta tonight.
I guess time will tell if he is the scumbag...

The cops are going to be eating sh*t on this one.

Laura Karr is his ex-wife.

Laura Karr, who still lives in Petaluma, told KGO-TV in San Francisco last night that she was devastated and embarrassed by the murder charge, but does not believe that her husband committed the crime.

She said she and her husband were living in Alabama around Christmas 1996, when JonBenet was murdered in her Colorado home.

Denial-stage family members of criminals can be idiots. "No, my precious Johnny could never do anything like that :( :( :(" Someone has to be at least a mother and father to these freaks.

Is there really DNA evidence available? I hope so. This guy sounds so like one of those wierdos who wants to be famous, so much so that he'll research a case and take the blame if he can convince someone he knows enough to have been the perpetrator.

Denial-stage family members of criminals...

No. Not basing any opinions on that.

There were NO footprints in the snow around the Ramsey's house. It was done by the parents. There was so much evidence that was tainted because those Barney Fife cops that made the initial call f*cked up and didn't secure the scene, thus allowing a plausible "explanation" by the Ramsey's lawyers.

...so much so that he'll research a case and take the blame if he can convince someone he knows enough to have been the perpetrator.

From what I was told today he had been working on a book about the murder. He had interviewed a number of people close to the case so he would have knowledge of details the public wouldn't know, making him look more guilty. There is also the theory that he is confessing to this crime so that he can be extradited to the US rather than sit in prison there for thirty years on other charges. I find that very plausible and think it is actually a smart move for someone in that situation.

I find that very plausible and think it is actually a smart move for someone in that situation. Paragon and I were talking about the same thing. We think he just wants to come back to the US quick. I also think he will enjoy prison, I bet he really enjoys the company of men (or boys). I don't know who did it, but I think the parents should be held accountable for something. They dressed their little girl up to look like she was 25, with all of the make-up and stuff. That was a crime in itself. I just think that is wrong. I would bet that child molesters love to hang out at little girls pagents.

but you have to believe that our justice system is too good to be fooled by someone looking for extradition. come on, look at their track record. you are trying to make it seem like our system would lock up an innocent man, or release a guilty one for that matter. have faith in the system, with all the jails and prisons in the country busting at the seams, how could they be wrong:D

There were NO footprints in the snow around the Ramsey's house. It was done by the parents. Also, I just heard on FOX News that Karr said that of the things he did to JonBenet .. one was giving her a drug , although he didn't mean for her to die. But, in the toxicology tests, there weren't any drugs in her system. IMO, he's just trying to get into some sort of perverted limelight and out of the Thailand prison system. As far as the parents go .. how could they have allowed JonBenet to be paraded in the way she was?!?! I hope I'm wrong, but I still feel the mother is mixed up in this .. still. :(

Not good enough, this slime bag is the lowest form of human there is. He prays on kids, granted it might not have been JonBenet, but other kids. I would say let us take a lotto on who gets to give him his sex change operation.
I have a set of Samurai swords that I could make one of them very dull, but still sharp enough to cut something in about four tries. (Of course, I might be a bad aim and it might take ten or twenty to actually finish the job.:D ) It could be televised on Spike TV or Court TV. (I bet the ratings would be better than the superbowl, maybe even get Viagra for a sponsor.)
Once the operation has been performed, and if he lives, send him to jail with big bubba, and he can spend the rest of his life in jail singing, "I looked at love from both sides now."

IMO, Boulder DA had next to nothing on this guy, and brought him in anyway on the specific charges of "murder of JonBenet". They could have saved themselves A LOT of embarassment by just bringing him in on the CA child porn charges, and waiting for the DNA tests to come back. I don't understand why they even bothered. This case has been cold for so long, everyone had forgotten about it. Why open it up, and with so little there to back up the case? Complete and utter nonsense without the evidence there. There were smarter ways to go about this I'm sure. Some that were probably much more responsible, instead of this media frenzy they must have known would follow. I find it hard to believe this whole case was even presented.

Boulder DA =
