:giggling: ;)

I am supposed to take Pea-Pie to get spayed this morning but she seems sick. Coughing and gagging- maybe from the kennel last week. I don't think I will take her in and just call them, I don't want any complications or her coughing with stitches. I just want her to be healthy before going in.

Am I being unreasonable? Do you think I am just nervous and procrastinating? Kenny is sleeping and I don't want the vet to think I am a weirdo or get pissy for ruining their schedule.

Furthermore, has anyone spayed their dog before? I am worried for her. I have to get it done soon. Any tips to make her more comfortable? Do they give pain pills for them?

She could have kennel cough if she was in for a day or more. Does the coughing sound almost human??

I say fix that bitch. Mikko, our dog, is in heat. And a 85lb German Shepard in heat is no fun. Just let me say I have thought about a doggie tampon, a few times in the last few days. Yesterday I put on Mikkos diaper and "That Baby" said "Diaper" then started laughing so hard. Mikko got embarrassed, then her ears laid back and her head dropped then she went over to her pillow and layed down and would not look at us. It was so funny. :giggling: :giggling: :giggling: :giggling: :giggling:

(Chanting) Fix the bitch, fix the bitch, fix the bitch, fix the bitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus she should calm down alittle. And maybe she will stop sh!tting in H2 Rocks suitcase. Come to think about it, she never sh!t in any of ours. :shhh:

I called and they said it would be best to reschedule.

Kenny is up now and she hasn't coughed (ofcourse) so he thinks I am lying to get her out of it.:D But I'm not. It's doesn't sound human it is like a snorting spasm that lasts until she catches her breath or gags.

She went thru heat at 8mos and it was really gross, I am definitely getting it done, it also reduces her risk of cancer later. But I just lover so much and am worried. I'll get it done next week prolly.

You did get a kennel cough treatment from the Vet before taking the dog to the kennel? (My kennel requires it.)

As for the spaying, I had the Malamute spayed last year, and she was normal two days later. (Bet your dog will be a lot less expensive since Vets charge by the pound for spaying.):clapping:

Hey, our Pomeranian has been doing that, too. Kind of like a snorting spasm until she catches her breath .. then she sort of tries to gag/cough up. Then she's ok. It's intermittent, not all of the time. I thought maybe she got into a dusty area because she likes to search out hidden areas in the house. (No dust in OUR house! :giggling: ) If you find out what that's all about with yours, please post!

We had our 5lb'er spayed at about 10 months. We were worried, too, because she was hypoglycemic. I don't know if all very small dogs have hypoglycemic tendencies at that young age, or just Pomeranians. Either way, she came through the sugery just fine and was as feisty as ever by the same evening. Going through heat was very stressful for her (as it was for us! ). Good luck!

She had the Kennel cough shot (Bordatella) the same day we brought her there. It normally isn't allowed and should be administered 48 hours before a stay but my sister is the manager there so it was okay. But there must be a reason.

I think she is sleeping because she is sick.:D

Be careful! becasue she is small she can get phnemonia easy. my 6lb did and when i could'nt get water down him with eyedropper I took him to the Doggie Hospital. they pumped fluids and two days of antibiotics in him. i thought he was dying. Just watch it real close! Get food and water in and if the cough gets worse and you can't get water in. Go see the vet. Forget the surgery for a week.

Hmmm you are so sweet.:) I appreciate everyone's imput and concern.:grouphug:

She is doing okay, still coughing every now and then, but not peeing hardly. Now I will try to make sure she gets some water thanks to usetosell. She is really cold too, shivering and her ears are cold so I have been either holding her wrapped in a blanket or on the heating pad with blankets when I am doing stuff. (FWIW, I am not being dramatic, I normally always hold her but w/out a blanket and put her under one when I am busy- just stepping the heat up a little.:D) She should be fine.

How long ago was she in the kennel? Bordattelo would not be effective if she got the shot the day she went in. Kennel cough shows up about a week later, IIRC. It is relatively benign but you may want to check with the vet if that cough persists. As to the spaying--not to worry, it is routine and she will be normal in 2 days.

h2co-pilot
10-25-2006, 01:56 AM
Thanks rates, she was there last Wed. thru Fri.

I read that early this morning. The shot takes at least 5 days to be effective and is kinda like the flu shot as it is based on a popular strain of Bordatella at the time it was manufactured. I believe it to be kennel cough or a reverse sneezing but since the symptoms developed; I assume it to be KC and being a virus I have decided not to get antibiotics unless she becomes worse or develops a fever or stops eating or drinking.

I also found out she is the "deer" type of Chihuahua (longer slender legs and a deer shaped head- still AKC), which is so darn cute. She does look just like a tiny deer and folds her legs up like one.:)

You're right, usetosellhummer. :) Keep her hydrated. And make sure you put the eyedropper of water at the CORNER of her mouth, not directly down her throat. The vet told us a pet can choke on being given fluids too fast and/or it can go into the lungs. Pets lap water, so aren't used to having it given so freely through their throat. Poor little 'deer-like' Peepers. :crying:

She did great! Ken and I are on vacation in Tennessee and we had to leave them in a kennel.

It was not as nice as I was expecting and I feel like a jerk, in fact it is really hampering on my vacation, I am always worrying. I probably could have taken Stewart but Pea-Pie can't even go to 7-11 without throwing up. So she has to stay- one of the reasons I got Stewart as a little buddy for when we go out of town, but they wouldn;t put them in the same cage/area/whatever. But they will see eachother out in the run/yard. Anyway, if I had thought of calling before the week of Thanksgiving weekend for a reservation they would have gone to their regular one.

They'll be fine. Dogs kind of go into an acceptance of being in a temporary spot (boarding) while they are there. I know from boarding our little Pomeranian. We actually put her in a pet condo at the vet where she has her own room with Animal Planet on 24/7, and we can view her online 24/7. :shhh: LOL. She mopes around a little and sleeps most of the time. When we pick her up she is incredibly excited. Glad to hear Pea-Pie is back to her 'ol feisty self! :D
Enjoy your vacation!!! Your babies will be fine! :D
