Ok, Stewart is pissing us off. He's peeing in his crate! WTF???!!!

He's an awesome dog, but this has to stop. CP had just washed his bedding, from piss, and had some nice clean blankets in it, but as soon as she put him in, he pissed. He wasn't in trouble or anything and walked right in... and pissed!!!

Any ideas???

Leave him in his crate with the urine, make him sleep with it. Clean it in the morning. He won't want to pee in there much longer if he has to lay in it all night.

The crate should only be big enough for him to turn around.

The crate should only be big enough for him to turn around.

It is. It's just his legs are so long and his body is the size of Pea-Pie's (Chihuahua). He can fold them up really good once he settles in. Maybe switch the crates between the two. Pea-Pie won't pee in a small room let alone a crate (my princess :D)

BUT THE THING IS! I washed his bed because I smelled some pee pee and when I took it out there was a huge puddle- on the part he lays on all the time!!

He doesn't care. No wonder he stinks alla time. He likes it or something.

We crate them for no longer than 2 hours at a time and let him out a lot- because we are both here all day. It's not like we just leave him in there.

I literally just washed his bed and put a different blanket in there- thinking that a downy fresh blanket that had never been peed on might work- maybe it was smell. I was proud, I just made it so clean and comfy for him. I let him go in there and he immediately peed in front of me. I couldn't believe it, I just sat there on the floor in shock after telling Ken, until I got up to type this and look for what could be the problem.

This dog is a serious pisser- he loves it, lives in it and smells like it.

I am seaching right now.

Are you washing or drying the blanket with something that gives it a perfume smell? "Fresh" scented soap or dryer sheets might be the problem.

Yeah, bounce sheets or Downy- sumtimes both.

CP,
Are you using one of those pet odor neutralizer products. They eliminate the smell of urine from rugs and whatever else. If the smell is not neutralized the dog will continue to piss on it in effort to mark their territory. Covering the odor up will not solve your problem.

DAMN! That would pi$$ me off! :dancingbanana:

Bladder problem? or

Some dogs know they have to go in their crate when mom and dad are going bye bye. Many puppeeees (get it :D ) will piss in the crate or chew things as a form of seperation anxiety. Ig your dog just started doing this and is just strating to get around 1 or so, this may be just the start.

There is a ton of info out there. Here's a link to check out.

I do use pet odor neutralizer, it has alcohol and some enzymes in it. But I haven't used it on his bed- which is a good idea because I always just wash it. But- the blanket he pissed on was not a dog blanket and just temporary while his bed was in the wash.

He is over a year and a half old.

We got him from the SPCA a few months ago and now I understood why the woman at the SPCA said "Your taking him home- Good luck!":D Then explained that a girl took him home for awhile and he wasn't housebroken at all. I thought she was just an uncaring bitch.:D

I keep lmao at Dennis' posts- Stewart has been through 4 homes already.

I will look into the anxiety of dogs, I guess. Damn!

If he has to much room in the crate he will be able to pee at one end and sleep at the other. With ours to begin with we cut the kennel in half to give him just enough room to lay down. The only times he does anything in the kennel now is if we have to leave him in there for a long time. Try halfing his space to see if this works. Also just wash any bedding with no scented detergent and do not use any dryer sheets. This will maintain his sleep.

Our dog loves dryer sheets! Downy with Febreeze. :giggling: She rubs her face in her bedding and falls right to sleep! Our dog is an indoor only dog .. litter box trained ... never set her feet outside. For awhile, even though her litter box is always near her, she would get 'angry' if we left for an hour, or, if we kept her in the living room and not let her have access to other parts of the house. Sooo, she'd wait until we walked into the living room, squat and look at us over her shoulder while she was 'going'. It could be either one .. #1 or #2. :giggling: The vet told us she was doing it out of anger .. she wanted us with her, or, she wanted the run of the house. She stopped doing it after about 2 weeks when we'd just ignore her bad behavior. I guess when we yelled at her, "bad dog!", she was getting the attention she had wanted. Maybe Stewie is upset that he is being placed in a crate for a couple of hours? Does he do this when he's OUT of the crate? Good luck!

Good stuff everyone. Thanks.

Stewart is a good boy, but has Separation Anxiety. That can be dealt with and it's not that hard since we both are home most of the time. Plus, when we're not here he can see Pea-Pie and they're crated. He actually will get in his crate, without us telling him to, just to hang out.

He's just a pisser....:crying:

But he's so good.... All he wants is lovin' and touchin'. If he's out, he's next to, or on you.:grouphug:

Maybe we'll put him in PP's crate tomorrow. It's smaller and he won't be able to stretch, but maybe that'll work.:(

HMMM3, PP love's drier sheets. She tries to eat them...

I dunno, the only reason why we crate his is because he is a pisser. Just so he can learn to hold it. I am home all day.

He pisses everywhere, I am always cleaning up piss..... and sh1t, he's a sh1tter too.

I mean, if that bish pees in his crate on new blankets?, Now I have to scan everything- not just the floors. There could be an abundance of piss somewhere.

I love him- but dayum!

Is it cruel to put a hair thing on his lil penis?:D

My sister has 2 yorkshire terriers. The one is very good, and the other one is dumb and uses the whole house to crap/piss. She's tried everything, but it doesn't work. However, she says the little things can't go more than 30-60 minutes without a trip outside. (Personally, if that's all the longer they can go, they'd be sleeping with the fishes) So I dunno, there may be no hope for you. Our little dogs here (pug and korgie) both pee in their crates and on the floors from time to time. Luckily, we have wood floors, but if our mastiff's bed is laying out, they will sometimes pee on it. So it's washable. Stupid little dogs...

I was only half kidding with my get-a-separate-crate proposal. Perhaps he associates the crate itself with peeing and not the stuff in it, but if presented with 2 crates would continue to use the current one for peeing and the new one for sleeping. Long shot I'm sure.

chewing tobacco, bacon, fart on the hook... pretty much anything that stinks works for catfish :giggling:

As far as the dog peeing in the crate dealy. Go buy a fence charger and some bare wire, gently weave two strands of wire close together back and forth inside the cage and then run it out and hook up to the fence charger. Place a little blanky or something that would act as a insulator when he was in there normally, but when he wets it, it will conduct just a small amount of electro.

It'll curl his hair and tickle his balls

Yeah, but he NEVER does anything bad. He's the best dog as far as being good in the house. But sometimes if he gets sick, and has the runs, then it's a mess. :(

My best friend has Danes, and they're really good too. Big dogs seem to behave more, I think because they're chickens. :D

My sister used to pee in her bed. My mom put this this down that would set off an alarm if it got wet. It worked too. I used to test it often with water when she was sleeping.:giggling:

Maybe something like that will work.

I took out his bed from the dryer and sprayed it down with fabreez. I sniffed every inch and don't smell anything like pee. ANd I am a pretty good smeller.;):D ;O)

The bounce does have a piss type of smell to it- maybe that's it. They pee on a certain throw rug in my house and I wash it often. I'm sure the bounce sheets have something to do with it.

Stewart pees or poops when you leave him alone- even for a few minutes. I separate them to when they eat. After they are done, I take Pea-Pie outside first- and leave her to get him. By the time I get back he has pissed all over the floor. Prolly due to his separation anxiety- so there are multiple causes and issues. I just want to minimize the clean-up. He is a constant effort.

....and he pees like a girl.:fdance:
