Lots of conflicting intel reports. First it's a go, then it's not.

Among the many showstoppers General Motors has planned for the North American International Auto Show in January, its military-inspired off-road brand HUMMER will be unveiling an H4 concept. The oft rumored H4 will be smaller than the successful H3 SUV that's currently driving HUMMER sales and will be slated to compete with the Jeep Wrangler. While the H3 is built on the same platform as the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups, we don't yet know what will underpin the H3. AutoWeek sources confirm, however, that it will not be built on a front-wheel drive platform. With the success of the H3 worldwide continuing unabated despite the fluctuation of fuel prices, the decision to produce the H4 concept should be an easy one for General Motors. Expect a version suitable for mass market consumption around 2010. HUMMER will also have a pickup version of the H3 on display at the Detroit show. With two new potential vehicles on deck, HUMMER appears ready to carve as large a niche for itself as possible out of the remaining pool of off-road warriors.

Hasn't this been beaten to a bloody pulp in numerous previous postings? Some say it won't show up, others are saying it will.

I'm not even sure I know what that means.

I say the H4 will be in Detroit.*

*This is based on no scientific facts, no careful market analysis, no insider information. Only the faint hope in my heart that HUMMER^ and GM will step up to the plate.

^Maybe AM General will have a display with the new H1 AND H4..... :D

My sources agree that H4 will be in the Michigan debute. Unfortunately these sources are unreliable at best. :beerchug:

5 days and I'll let you know what I find at the Auto show. Even if they don't have the H4 or the H3T on display- I'm sure it'll be a great show. Never been disappointed by it yet!:jump:

Anything interesting at the Detroit auto show?

Nothing in the Hummer category from the recaps I've seen. GM won international car and truck of the year (Saturn Aura and Silverado), debuted the 2008 Chevy Malibu and Caddy CTS (nice!), showed off the Volt plug-in hybrid, and yeah, that's about it. :D

Nothing too awful important at the Auto Show. Hummer had an H3 concept with an open top. Looked pretty cool. The open top opened from both directions, had seats made from lambskin, and some pretty damn sweet tires. Other than that- not a whole lot to report. I was a little disappointed in their display setup. A few yrs. ago at the auto show Hummer had a really cool display which showed the Hummers in off-road scenes. (Like partially on a boulder, in sand, etc...). This year- only one was even off the ground and it was on a glass incline. Nothing special at all. I hate to say it but Jeep had some kick ass displays and a really cool concept car....

Reading that there is negativity regarding Hummer public perception. GM is not rushing the H4 to market as a result.
