At 8:am it was about 15* out side here in the Frantic City NJ area this morning. I climbed into the rig to head off to Motor Vehicles to pick up my 4 year inspection sticker since I received my permenent tags yesterday.
I always turn the NAV unit off before I shut down so tha it comes right up with NAV & XM. Otherwise for some reason it does the reboot the NAV CD and Download XM thing if left on when you first start the rig.
I fired the rig up and then about 10 seconds later hit the power on the NAV Radio. That's when the screen went all garbled and glitched with funny looking gack.
It was dark and I couldn't make out Crap. I shut off the nav power and turned it back on but the same thing happened. Next step...I shut the rig off. Then restarted it and then powered the NAV up again.
At that point...the Nav came back on...with the XM. WTF.???
Anyone else have any cold weather problems with the NAV.??
I think these units don't dig the cold at all. I know CD drive mecks don't do well in cold weather.
What's your experience with this topic.??

yours starts up with nav xm?????? Everytime i turn my car on no matter what it starts up on a white screen saying H3 and then goes into the radio or navigation whatever it was on. Once in a while it will say checking disk for a second. And i once had an error where it said disk error or something and i had to restart the car. Only once though.

OK..let me correct my self.....Your correct..I forgot ..the H3 Logo comes up first. And the Checking Disc comes up if you leave the radio on when your shut your rig off and resrat.
Try turning your NAV Radio off before you shut down. Then after you start up turn your NAV on....it should go directly to NAV and or XM with out the checking disc crap.

Maybe there is a difference since mine was a dealer XM install with the GM after market kit. But if I don't shut down the NAV before I turn off ..the XM will say " Downloading" ..this takes about 30 seconds to reload.
Is yours a factory XM Install..??

nope mine doesnt do that. Just comes right up with the xm. No 30 seconds. And the whole checking disk thing happens either way. Its just when you turn it off you dont see it cause the screen is off when it does it. If you turn it on real quick and go to nav your still waiting for the disk to spin up. To reboot your radio you can unplug it from the back or dissconnect your battery for a while. The first time you turn on the car it will start at a screen that says DELPHI insted of H3 then it says h3 and goes to the screen with a warning and you hit ok. You dont lose your presets either if i remember.

My Hummer spends all of its time outside and I have used the navigation system as cold as -55C (-70F) and it works flawlessly. The display is very sluggish, but never garbled and everything still works. If the problem continues, I would speak to your dealership.

This only happend once as of the post date when it was about 10-15*F outside. It hasn't happened again since. So who knows..maybe just a boot up thing do to the cold weather.
