I have been wanting one of these for years. Sorry to disappoint you but Rover IS NOT going to export these to the US. A redisign is slated for 2010, at which time they will consider exporting them. Until then if you want one you will have to pay +50K for a 1993 if you can find one. Jim Newman of The Rover Group, SD Ca can help.

Looks like the the old one just witha face lift. And with onl 120 HP it seems extremly lacking in power with people complaining about the H3's 242 i wonder how people would respond to that.

Here's a Motor Trend article that says it is coming to the U.S.
http://www.motortrend.com/future/spied_vehicles/163_0407_2008_land_rover_defender/

The Defender, absent from this market since after the 1997 model year, returns to the United States in 2007 as a 2008 model. It retains its image as the purest, most committed sport/utility in Land Rover's lineup, although a smaller, more basic model reportedly is in the works for introduction a year later.

They are real classic designs. They are all live axles on coil springs. Some have the V8.

Rovers reliability record is a liability. And they are expensive to repair

Ive had good luck with Jeeps, Toyotas and now with an H3 so I down I would go for the Rover unless I lived in Africa but even there I'd probably want a Land Crusier

Thanks for the article, I hope they bring it to the states!! I have always drooled over the older ones I have seen and the new one looks great! I like the looks of the two door version over the four door.

The D90 "design" is merely engineering for function, not form or style. Kind of like the original Jeep or the military "h1".

To me, those are always the coolest looking.

The difference w/ H2 and H3 is with both there is much emphasis on "style and form" not only function

Cool rig, but I'm not going to drive that thing as a daily driver like I do the H3.

I thought the new freelander is next before anything else in the LR line?
nothing says FU then a Rover, worse then Hummer, lot of leaf lovers seem to give them a pass over us?:lame:

I really like how the rear seats fold sideways.

Yes LR2 (replacement for Freelander and still called Freelander in Europe) is hitting dealers now.

My favorite Range Rover currently is the RR Sport supercharged. It weights 6000 pounds, has 400 hp, and sucks premium gas like it's free. Most tree-huggers don't even notice it.

I emailed Land Rover to find out if they're going to bring the Defender to the U.S. Here's their reply-
Thank you for contacting the Land Rover Customer Relationship Center.

Land Rover does not have any plans to re-introduce the Defender into the United States. This model requires several design and performance changes in order to be compliant with strict U.S. safety and emissions standards.

We appreciate your enthusiasm regarding this vehicle. I will forward your comments to Product Development. The last year the Defender was offered in the U.S. was 1997.

Have a great week.

Sincerely,

Lia Luciano

I might be wrong, but I think all it needs to be ready for the US would be airbags and emmisions. I thought the EU would have worse emmissions laws than dumbas$$ California.

Land Rover is working hard with the US to bring the V6 TDi and V8TT diesel to the US. I doubt a defender will have the V8TT. A USA Defender could easily have the same 4.0 or 4.4 that comes in a LR3, or hell, even the Inline six of an LR2 would do good.
