View Full Version : Tropical Storm Barry

The second named storm is upon us. Barry isn't expected to develop into a hurricane, but it should help out with Florida's drought conditions.

But don't forget about this:

The National Weather Service said it expects 13 to 17 tropical storms, with seven to 10 becoming hurricanes and three to five in the strong category.

Coastal folks should get supplies, including emergency supplies, together for the season.

Yes, and last year was "SUPPOSE TO BE" one of the worst seasons as well. I saw nothing. However I am prepared. I even took out enough through homeowners insurance to cover the Hummer.....and the DD's:beerchug:

If you lived in florida youd realize that unless its a Cat4 for 5 we dont give a crap, and just go on about our daily activities, tell you the truth no one i knew until tonight knew that we had a tropical storm over us. Besides that i was on the way down to a concert with 2 of my friends in an H2 limo and we heard it on the radio and we were joking saying "were in florida in an Hummer in a tropical storm, but its a limo with cheetah spotted leather"

I decided to take the boat out anyways. Not the best time to learn how to launch a boat but fun nonetheless. I stayed close to shore as I didn't want to swim far if it broke down... found out later that was a manatee zone, luckily I had no registration on it so no one could report me. It was really choppy... :D Can't wait for my lift to get fixed at my dock so no more of that launching nonsense.

Launching the boat can be learned easily.

For me, it's remembering to put the drain plug back on before I launch.:jump:

I remember being half way across the lake when I found that it was getting hard to plane the boat and I was losing speed. I looked back and my back end was almost underwater.:giggling:

I killed the engine, grabbed the drain plug and dove into the water to put it back in. The bilge pump handled the rest after 10 minutes or so.

I've dove into the water with the drain plug.........Twice.:jump:

It's the timing part we had troubles with. It was a crappy boat launch, no where to tie the boat to... the high winds pushed it sideways towards the ramp. The second attempt I think we did it right and started it while still hooked up to the trailer. ;) Then the whole manatee zone no wake thing... but it was like 2 ft chop so I'm not sure that matters. Oh well, we'll try again tomorrow.

I made extra sure the drain plugs were in! The dealer stressed that way too much... apparently if you sink your boat because you forgot the drain plugs, it's not covered under warranty. :giggling:

:jump: :jump: :jump:

My buddy forgot to put the plugs back in on his boat one time. I was backing it off the trailer and all of a sudden, his eyes get real big and he dives in. :giggling: The engine wouldn't fire so we could pull it back in. It almost sunk right at the launch.

I am not sure what rock you live under, but everyone I know does worry about them. Your maybe its your age talking, but once you own your own home and have a family then maybe you will have a clue. I pay double if not triple for insurance because of these storms that you don't give-a-crap about.

LMAO!!! I have a truck you can borrow anytime to pull your boat with. It has alot more visibility than that beast of yours. Of course I will have to use your beast while you have my truck. And the two foot chop is for you to get some air under your wakeboard.

I'm sure it was pretty funny watching us launch yesterday, but today... we went to a decent boat launch and it went smooth. :beerchug: Got over 50mph today, got some air.. pretty fun. Still too windy on the lake but very nice on the river.

Ah... there were some close calls when hitting the wake from some larger boats while going 50, got some air but that's about all. There were a couple gators that I saw on the river, that might suck to go overboard...

If you want to watch a bunch of idiots and boats, come to the port and sit at the Tiki bar and watch the public boat ramp... LMAO! :giggling: So many non-boaters owning boats, I have seen the entire thing go under... truck, boat you name it. I watch them plow into each other and seen ppl fall off as they are trying to push off or coming up to the dock.
We just sit there with our cold beer in hand and watch the FWP or Brevard Sheriff's issue citations.

We used to sit a dry private boat launch/dry storage facility and watch all the drunks come in late in the evening. It was great when the wind was up and the tide was moving.

One guy almost hit our docked boat once. I ran to the front to fend him off, slipped and cracked a few ribs. Bastard didn't even hit us.
