So this morning/afternoon i woke up at around 12, get in my car to go to lunch at the local cracker barrel. So on my way i see some crazy red bug something from the movies on window, so i opened my window and flicked it out. Next thing i know i feel something on my leg, i looked down and theres like a whole flock of like 30 on my leg. i pulled to the side got out my car freaked out and got em all off me. anyway im looking it up tonight and i found it its this http://www.richard-seaman.com/Wallpaper/Nature/Bugs/ThreadLeggedAssassinBug.jpg
its called a Thread Legged Assassin bug. found in Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Amazon rainforest (note i live in North America,). Found out the carry some crazy disease called chagas disesase parasite trpanosoma cruzii, and that there attracted to Skin, Blood, C02, and hair. My luck. Anyway i dont think i got bit by any cuase i havent been itchy at all but anyway just felt like sharing this.

I forgot where you live in FL, but stay away from Cocoa Bch and Orlando where Dei lives, I am taking him a few Gators on Weds, so you can go there anytime after that///

But ya man I hear ya, Where did they come from and why you?
You should proly tell someone in local Gov't.

Good Luck

It's okay!:D

I found that Florida has them too. (Look at the locations next to the pictures)

http://www.floridanature.org/species.asp?species=Zelus_longipes

But they do bite- big time.

http://www.ivyhall.district96.k12.il.us/4TH/KKHP/1INSECTS/assassin.html

Can be black and white or bright orange. The “sucking” mouthpiece is a slender tube through which venom is injected into the skin. Extreme pain followed by swelling and redness are associated with this bite as the assassin injects a tissue-dissolving venom when it bites. Seek medical attention if this occurs.

FactsNearly 3000 species of assassin bugs exist and scientists feel that many more will be discovered. These insects can be commonly found throughout most of the world. They vary in size from a few millimeters to as much as 3 or 4 centimeters. They come in many colors and shapes and most species have two pairs of wings. However, ALL assassin bugs have a powerful, curved rostrum, or beak, that they use to pierce and suck out the tissues of their prey.

Glad you are okay. That is so weird!:crying:

WOW, please stay out of the panhandle as well. I currently have a problem with fireants and it is more than a hand full now. They are not in the car or anything, but the yard has a couple of mounds. I have sprinkled grits on them and hope they all emplode!:jump:

Maybe they were lady bugs, the assassin bug's more benign cousin?...

Anyhow, I'm impressed you didn't freak out and run over a lamppost or something, because I definitely would have!! (or maybe a Prius...)

"No bugs in Miami", that's not what I heard. But I was there Christmas week 4 years ago and it was relatively bug-free.
