I like the fact that it is not a cassete or dvd disk or hard drive based cam with the ease of using a protable memory stick. However, what are the drawbacks of using memory sticks?

I hear next year there will be HUGE capacity memory sticks and flash media available. So is this the future media to end all medias?

That means just pull the memory stick out and plug it into your computer when video editing? That alone is great. I hate transfering crap tape by tape onto video editing. And it saves storage space. I can carry 10 memory sticks in one pocket instead of 10 cassettes in a bag.

Yeah it's a great concept but I hate that Sony has a proprietary sytem. If you had sd or compact flash pricing would be better. Considering all the talk about flash drives lately it shouldn't be long before camcorders have 100gb built in.

I use to sell a lot of sony Video Cameras in both NTSC, PAL & SECAM models before I retired. They make a good product but have a CRAPPY WARRENTY, only 90 days on labor, one year on parts...let me tell you parts can be expensive but NON-Warrenty labor will cost you tour left gonad...

In reading the SPECS, unless i'm blind I don't see the record time in the video mode...

Sony has licenced several companies to make the Memory-Stik so you do not have to pay Sony's high prices...

No matter what you buy remember the Digital Zoom numbers don't mean KA-KA...Quality in digital is MUCH low then optical...

Solid State non moving recording medium is the future...

Cant speak for the blindness part :giggling: however the reason they dont show record time is due to the fact that it all depends on how large of a mamory I mean memory stick you buy... :)

But I think them memory sticks are like $70US each where as a 10pack of HI8s is $29US at Costco. Worth it if you're into the high end formatting.

Thank you...

Still fairly cheap considering you just dump to your hard drive and reuse the stik...no real wear like in tape...
