My warranty has about 12k miles left. Would it be wise to get an extended warranty? Which ones are the best out there? and how much do they cost?

i have an 03 with 35.8k miles on it. I was quoted GMPP additional 4yrs up to 100k for $3300... with Warranties4wheels or whatever, it was $2200 for an additional 7yrs 100k miles. I'm considering just saving the money and using it for accessories...ie winch bumper, rack...etc...

Iam Guessing you mean extended Service contracts
If so And if your question is which one is the best from GM the GMPP Major guard with 0 deductable would be the best Doing it at the end of the warrenty is extremly smart. Keep in mind with 99.9 percent of extended contracts they dont cover everything. Meaning its not a bumper to bumper. None of the GMPP contracts cover Trim pieces.
You can compare GMPP plans to find which plan is right for you at http://gmprotectionplan.com/coverage_comparison.cgi
As far as third party plans are concerned its my personal advice to stay away. Working for GM i have seen many horror storys when it comes to third party plans.
I hope the little bit of information i gave you helps you with your decision. If you need anymore help let me know.

6 yr,100000 miles. $2368.00. Continental Warrany Company, phone (800)929-2694.
All:
I have the W4W warranty now....7yrs, 125K, "0" ded, for just over $2200, but I also saved $200 by taking it out at 29,995 miles. Towing, rental car, and even a wear and tear clause.
They have no AZ BBB complaints, and are clear with the AZ Atty. General. Contact Wayve Craig at 877-844-7283, http://warranties4wheels.com/w4wmainhtml.htm, and mention either OMAHOG/IHOG or Ric Hines for a $100 discount. Pay lump sum or by monthly installments (small fee).

Do you guys charge sales tax on your policies? WA state just started in july...so it adds another $300 bucks to the deal.... I'm thinking about talking to someone in Oregon....of course, the local dealer here offered it to me at employee price...

If you dod not GMPP you may or may not have coverage outside the dealer you buy it from. Do not listen or belive everything the dealer you buy the warrenty tells you. I sold the extended and this really happens. You break down in another state get towed to a Hummer dealer and find out he does not except the particular after markdt warrenty you bought. You will have no recourse with GM at all. If yo buy GMPP any Hummer dealer must accecpt it becasue it is from GM. buyer beware

I wouldn't touch an aftermarket warranty with a 10 foot pole...GMPP is the only safe bet. Our old owners used to sell the AM warranties and they sucked, now that we do GMPP only I actually push them to my customers because they are worht it and will cover you just like the new car warranty minus the fact there is a deductible on some plans
I too am going to have to get an extended warranty...had weird things...squeeks, compressors but the computers is the scary part...I checked with Las Vegas Towbin Hummer and they have one for $3900, 72 mo/100,000 miles...California is too expensive..Sacramento Hummer (we wont discuss those rip offs) wanted $5500 for 5 yrs/60,000 miles...Do we know how reliable Continental Warranty is?

As I already have over 31K and a big trip is coming up, I bought a GMPP Major Guard from Black Pontiac (http://www.gmoutlet.com/quote/emailserver/majorguard/05mg5.htm).
*UPDATE: The 2006 GMPP program is CHEAPER than the 2005. Allen Black (owner (877)472-9550) is a stand-up guy -- and I will be buying the 06 program instead.
$1635 + $500 surcharge = $2135 for 36/36000 $0 deductible ($420 savings over 2005 program! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

This is the quote I got from these guys. What do you all think?
Thank you for your interest in purchasing an extended warranty from Warranties 4 Wheels, the Auto Warranty Specialists. I am a warranty broker who works for you, the consumer, to find the best coverage possible. The value in using a broker is that I can shop around for you so you don’t have to spend your valuable time investigating a dozen different warranty companies. I will also fight for you on “gray area” claims. If the warranty company doesn’t cover something you believe should be covered – just call me and I will do whatever I can to assist you.
We have included your quote, the links to the actual contract, an authorization form, an inspection form, information on our company, and some customer cost examples. We believe it is critical to give you 100% of the facts so you can make the best decision on your extended warranty coverage.

I was always advised not to buy extended warrentys. They dont cover everything and sometimes can be a fight to get things covered. They are big money makers and big commision makers. You might spend the policy amount on repairs if you paid out of your pocket. Unless you you beat your truck to death and plan on a power train failure.
H2Finally
10-01-2005, 12:22 AM
Intercooled, the H2 varies, some owners trash em and never have any problems. Others baby them and had to replace transmission at 16K. Since yours is a newer 05, your opinion may change yet.
I was told GMPP Major Guard pretty much covers everything the factory warranty did; with the added bonus of being honored by ALL GM dealers coast to coast (in case you break down while travelling).
When I did my homework, I found that buying extended warranty at the end of your factory warranty only cost a couple of hundred more than buying at the beginning of your factory warranty (comparing apples to apples i.e. 72K total from date of purchase).
I'm glad I waited; and for my H2, the extended is CRUCIAL.

I spoke with Allen today (nice guy).
My current GMPP extended warranty expires 9-06 so I have some time to figure this out. You have to renew w/ 3 months or 3k miles remaining.
If I renew now, I get a $285 prorated refund from GM for the remaining coverage I have left. A 3 year/45K (from today) would be $2260 + 500 (surcharge). Thats a lot but I will probably keep this truck for a while. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Given the number of "issues" I've had over the past few years, I am reluctant to consider a 3rd party company like W4W or Continental.
The last thing I want to do when my vehicle is broke is wait around for some distant entity to approve it. Plus I'm sure the dealer don't like waiting/fighting to get paid.
Ric - Have you filed a claim yet?
Anybody else have a great big thumbs up for the 3rd party boys?? IMO, cost savings is marginal vs. peace of mind.

I got quoted as well I dont remmeber exactly how much but these are approx prices...
2years 3300$Can - 40000km (100$deductible)
2years 4600$Can - 40000km (0$ deductible)
Waht would you take? They also offered me
1 year 2600$ - 20000km
1 year 1940$ - 20000km 100$ deductible
My car has 74000KM.....I would be eligible to get it once they repair the 4X4 which is not working on warranty...they already changed 3 parts in the transfer case but its still not working...I will ask them to change the whole transfer case for a new one.
