Ok. I got OEM tail light guards for my SUT. I opened the box, started reading the instructions. Hrm... drill four holes in the back of my truck.. ok, I have the right tools, bits. The instructions say to do it.. soooo...

10 minutes later, I have a .25" hole in the back of my truck right next to the tail light. Not wanting to continue this madness I was wondering if the dealership's body shop can patch the hole and repaint it? It's in the gutter nex to the tail light. I don't know what I was thinking but I can't seem to find the 'undo' button... Thoughts?

****, I would put them on now. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Did you drill in the right spot? Anything can be fixed...but I would toss them on now.

I like the look, I just want to put them on with some double sided tape instead of drilling holes. They do attach with screws where the lamp covers attach, so only one side would be taped (like the SUV's).

I'm going to call the dealer and see if the body shop can 'undo' it. Man, it looks bad. Of course, most people probably wouldn't even notice unless I pointed it out.

I'm just pissed I did it. What was I thinking.

No guts ... no glory. I'm gonna take a jigsaw to my tub... I saw these real cool lookin Tail lights (http://www.mesa4x4.com/tech_articles/led/led.html) lights for Jeepers.

Can you toss some sealer in there, and then 3M tape them on? It would be covered and no one would ever know...unless they read this post! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Here is what body man will do!

Take (sand) the paint/primer off
Fill the hole with HOT metal gun, or filler http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Sand it clean, match up the lines
Prime it
Paint it
clear it
Buff/wetsand it

Yea, I tried that and it looks ok. I just used some touch-up paint and put some silicon in there.

That guard went on great and looked pretty good. The other one is warped or something and all four connectnig surfaces won't fit on the f*cking truck.

The project was apparently doomed from the start and I wanted to get out before I rolled my truck off a cliff or some other event makes it worse. heh.

It's all about my new 06 SUT. If it was a year old it wouldn't even bother me. The post is all about therapy. My girlfriend just called me a dumbass and went back upstairs laughing. I wanted a hug or something, It's like accidentally poking your kid's eye out and having to live with it.

Bill, dont worry about it at all! You've got better things in life to worry about besides downin yourself for drillin a hole in your truck . **** it, go drill another hole in it just for a good laugh. When your wife or kids get hurt worry about that instead. Your hummer can be fixed any day of the week.

But that would take away the troll argument that the jeep is better because it is a soft top http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

That's what I thought when putting mine on. Turned out the tabs that get screwed to the inside needed adjusting then everything fell into place.

Same with mine. The taped side kept coming off. A little adjustment and all was good.
