View Full Version : Let's talk rims + tires....

Ok so I have decided I want to buy rims, and assume I will need new tires to go with them...currently I have the 17" chrome from the luxury package in the 05.
Chrome rims are a must (like the look). I live in Buffalo, NY so all terrain (like the stock tires), are a BIG plus since the snow is harsh here in the winter...
I'm looking for 22" or 24". I'm pretty ignorant on rims and all though, I've been checking eBay and I think I really like these 24" ones...
http://images.channeladvisor.com/Sell/SSProfiles/10056202/Images/Storm%20Screen1.jpg.jpg
It says they are 24x10, bolt pattern 8x165, with 10 offset. They are $1,785. I know the 24 means 24"...what's the rest mean? Also which tires would be good with these and what would the typical cost of a set of 4 tires cost me?
Oh also...what's the typical cost to have them installed?
I have an 05 White H2...so I think these would look really good on mine.

mordak- 24" is height, 10" is bead width , 8 is how many stud hole, 165 is how many millimeters studs a apart. 10" is the offset , ( example -if spoke pattern was in exact center of wheel width it would be o offset)

Ok so what do ya think of these rims? And is $1,800 a good price for them?
Oh and 1 new question to add to the 50 I asked in 1st post lol... will my braking still be ok with new rims/tires? (especially in the winter?)

IMO, You may have been happier with an Escalade. They adapt themselves more easily to the Poser theme 24" wheels tend to emulate on an SUV. While you can put 24" wheels on an H2, forget about utility & good performance in snowy conditions. 18's or 20's look good on an H2 & still maintain enough tire sidewall to allow the H2 to perform admirably as the penultimate SUV. IMO, the H2 pictured in the add in your post looks absolutely ridiculous. However if that's what you're going for, good luck.

I do like the look in the picture...and I will never offroad this vehicle (parents bought me it...they'd kill me if I offroaded it heh)
I guess for winter I can put the stock tires/rims back on though for performance in winter and to not destroy the 24s.
If you like the 24" rims, go for it! Maybe you should consider keeping your stock takeoffs for the winter.

F&R Brembo's will run $6-8K. The H2 rides superbly on 17-20's, bigger than that it gets a little busy.
BTW, if you put 24's on & like it, you'll hate your H2 all winter with the "Snow Set" of factory 17's on it. If you were to consider 20's it would look good year-round. Good luck.

ARH...how do you see $5k for the vault with tires? Jeez heh...The rims are $1785 as I said in 1st post. A set of tires sure can't be $3,215...

On 24" rims it'll ride like a brick. But it'll be a really cool lookin brick. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
These tires are not practical for Buffalo, NY, in the winter. I realize it won't look as good, but you won't be happy when you hit those wonderful ice potholes.
I agree with ARH1956, 20's would look good year round and they'd be more functional year round.
Here's a pic of a friends with 20 x 10 and toyo 35x12.5x20.

i have 24's on my escalade and it rides on rails.. i enjoy that feeling but in my hummer NO WAY>. on my h2 i have 22" wheels with 37in offroad tires.. get a 22" wheel with TOYO Open Country MT 37X13.5X22... It is hardcore offroad.. baller 22in style and the toyo tire rides soft and smooth.. go with that set up you will not regret and you can also use them in the snow too. if you do 24's then you will ride like crap you will drop the h2's height by 5 inches and look stupid unless you lower the vehicle.. and if you do that.. YOU WILL BE LYNCHED BY THE FOURM MEMBERS!!!! and me.. get a caddy if you are that "BALLER" status.. 22in wheel 37in tire... TOYO thats the way to go.. its my living trust me
I hate to be the one to say it, but this is what the forum is about. An exchange of info from members to members. Nevermind that mordak wants to do some stupid **** to his truck http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif, he's getting good solid advice.
Awesome gang, awesome. BTW, no way on the 24's. Bad ride, guy, bad ride. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif Look at 20's and you'll be happy all the time. Trust me... Oh, I don't have 20's, just trust me.... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Mordak,
to get the "look" i think you're trying to achieve you're gonna have to lower the suspension or your gonna have terrible "wheel gap"
i don't think mom & dad would be too happy with you messing with the suspension, just as much as they wouldn't want you off-roading.
factor in the cost of the suspension upgrade before buying your rims and tires.

Ok so I guess the ride would be terrible on 24"s http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Would 22's look just as good, and ride a little better?
And what do you guys mean by the "ride bad" exactly?

If you go with a 325/45/24, it'll be 35.4" tall (going by Toyo Proxes S/T (http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_lines/lightTruck_suv/st.html) which is not an all terrain, but has a neat tread).
If you must go with 24s, I'd go with that tire. You have some taller 22" mud and all terrain options.
The 24s will give you great handling, but a much firmer ride. If you think you like it, go for it.
As for personal opinions, I don't care for the way that wheel bows out. It gives it a front wheel drive look. That's just my personal opinion on that particular wheel.

Mordak,
On our first H2 I bought 20" Lexani VP Off Road wheels with 325/60-20 Nitto Mud Grapplers. I didn't go with 22's or anything larger due to brake distance issues (upsprung weight) and there were really no All-Terrain tires in those sizes. I too require this truck to have winter traction. The Mud Grapplers were too noisy and brakes were terrible, if not unsafe.
On my wife's H2 I bought Kaotic NT-2 in 18's with Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain tires. In my opinion this is a good balance of looks, safety (brake distance issue) and function. The Toyos are quiet and look aggressive. Besides, you ever parallel park the thing? You'll need big tires or you'll scratch those rims!

Personally I like the bigger blade look on the H2 than the skinny "Rolex" spokes. If you want "bling," the Lexani VP Off Road wheels I had come in 22 and 24 as well. Take a look at mine again, although they are 20's, you can imagine how good they will look in 22's.

Also, those Bazo's look close to these Mazzi Hulks. I know many people have mounted these on their H2's and have had no issues. They are $450 or cheaper on line.

Kacy, I want the "bling" look, but the lexani vp offroad only seem to come in 20" max, and I'm not a fan of them either http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Damn, the Mazzi Hulks look good too!
Bit pricy at around $530/each though
Now if only I could find a picture of the mazzi hulk's 22" on an H2 http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

These are 20's but you get the idea. Bigger blades look better IMHO

Actually, before I decided on the Kaotic's the Mazzi hulk was my other choice.
I like the Kaotic NT-1. This is a pic off the other thread. I'm not sure what size they're showing.
I saw these in 40" tire, with 20" rim. SWEET! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I took a look at those but didn't like the huge hub that sticks out. On an 8 lug, you can't get the flush hub.

If you want a better ride, I like the 22s way better, but if you want to BALL, get the 26s like this...

So I'm leaning towards buying the DUB Condo 22" wheels.
http://thump.net/1869992/dubcondo.jpg
I was told to NOT screw up my speedometer/odometer etc. I need 325/50/22 tires? Something about keeping the factory diameter.
Anyone know the truth to this?
Thanks for any help!

That's the size I ran with my 20's but the braking was terrible with 20's.

So then with 22's, I could THEORETICALLY use 325/45/22 tires??
And this shouldn't screw up my speedometer etc.?

The 325/50/22 has an overall diameter roughly the same as the OEM tires, so that's a better bet than the 325/45/22, which has a diameter about 1" SMALLER than OEM.

I have 20" wheels with 37" tires and the braking is not a problem. I pulled my boat the other day with the surge brakes not working and the truck stopped itself and the boat just fine.
