The Ocean City, MD incident got me wondering.
Who has renewed their On Star after the "free" first year?

Going on my 3rd year. Still peace of mind is worth it for the majority of scenarios.

Have it and love it. I love that I get free directory assistance and the occasional directions(never with female witnesses around though).

Ditto. 2nd year. Also buy 300 minutes phone time just because it's better than any crappy cell phone.

300? I went whole hog and bought 500. My renewal is up in July and I've still got 400. The operator told me that if I buy 10 more minutes it will be added to my total and all of them rolled over. Schweeet.http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I got both and will keep both. I was told the same about buying a few minutes just before phone time is up on old and it roles them all over for the next year if You buy them for a year plan not quarterly plan. Mine are up in july also.
Worth every penny. I even kept the XM so I can hear Fox News anywhere and other sports stuff.

I have had Onstar since 2000 and have added the Denali and the H2 to the account as they came along. Airbag notification alone is worth it. I have seen too many accidents where no one knew about the accident until at least an hour and sometimes days thereafter.
Once I was out in the boonies where both my wife's and my cell phones had no signal and upon getting out of the H2 one of us accidentally hit the door lock button on the door (keys were still inside). Well 5 seconds passed, my infant daughter was still in the truck and the locks locked. Luckily we had a land line there and called Onstar and they saved me from having to have glass replaced by remotely unlocking the doors for us.
I have the basic plan that you use in emergencies and plan on keeping it.
Sorry...it's a waste of money. I tried to have them set up a 1-time use program...If I need it, I pay, but they want $$$ every month of every year. Never used it at all the first free year...oh well!

I'd guess it is considered expensive insurance. I personally have never renewed mine after the first free year in all 3 of the vehicles I have had with OnStar, but to each their own.

I never renewed it when it ran out on my Avalanche and I didn't renew it when it ran out on my H2. I am tired of paying for insurance and peace of mind!

I have had it for 3 years and love it too. I think that it's well worth it.

On my 2nd year...came in handy when I had an intermitent ignition problem and Onstar diagnosed the troubles making it easier to explain to the Techs. By the way, the phone is worth it!

What ~$200 a year for the basic "Safe and Sound"? Seems like a pretty decent deal to me...I'll keep renewing. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
