NEW ORLEANS -- Hummer will offer Alpha performance versions of its H2 and H3 SUVs, dealers learned at the make meeting.

But it will take another 24 to 30 months before the next extension of Hummer's Alpha line is ready, said Susan Docherty, Hummer general manager.

The first Alpha product, the 2006 H1 Alpha, is scheduled to ship to dealers this week. The vehicle contains a 6.6-liter turbodiesel engine and will be the sole H1 produced for retailers.

"We believe there is enough strength in Alpha that we should have Alpha across the line," Docherty said after the make meeting.

The H2 and H3 Alpha versions will come on top of conventional versions. Hummer hasn't determined whether the Alpha engine for the H2 and H3 will be a diesel, Docherty said.

Supercharged or larger-displacement engines are another option...

Alpha should be simply larger displacement to reduce costs and offer beefed up off-road components, front locker, different tire options, different torsion bar keys and gears etc. All the basic upgrades people want to do when they first buy the car but just cant find the time to get around to once they leave the dealership. for most buyers, its so much easier to just drive off the lot with how u want it. just my 2c.
