You will need 2 bottles of Mothers Aluminum polish, some 1000 grit wet sanding paper, a buffer and 2 pads, and some degreaser to get all the junk off plate. First take it off, clean it, then sand all the rough stuff off, then clean again, then buff it out with good buffer, the use a rag and hand polish it.. Will take about 2 hrs... Should come out like mine....

I have a polished aluminum skid plate that I will sale. It is made to go over the top of your factory skid-plate. I have the instructions and nuts and bolts needed for application. It's brand new, in the box, and has never been put on a Hummer. It doesn't have the H2 logo on it. It looks very much like the picture posted by phil d earlier in this post-- looks very sharp.
If interested, drop me a line.

What kind of metal is the skid plate made of? I have stainless steel nerf bar mfg. I buy from here in town. I bet he could be a good source for this project.

Bad idea!!!
Maintenance is easy, the fact that BADRAP did his from start to finish means that a touch-up should be no big deal.

The skid plate is made of 6061 T6 aluminum. It is very pure and very soft, perfect for stamping.
This material holds a polish for a very long time with low maintenance.(just ask HUMMERMAN he was my first customer from this forum)

I like my plate, I have to clean it from time to time and it is not very hard, I can do it now and still leave the plate on the H2. Still comes out nice... Thanks for the comment Bright-Lee....

Bright-Lee Beleive it or not mine still looks great after several months - no noticeable loss of shine! The only unusual thing I do is to always make sure when I wash the H2 is to wash the plate and then dry it when I dry the rest of the vehicle. I use just a regular off the shelf wash like Meguires PINK. And towel dry it with a cotton towel.
The trick is as you stated to make sure the inperfections are cleaned and boffed smooth - then it is easy to maintain!
